1272 S Mullen Ave - A Tale of Awesome Location and Sweaty Summer Nights
September 19, 2015First, S Mullen Ave is great street. Filled primarily with single family homes and duplexes, the street is a chill mix of older couples, families, and working adults. My apartment is one of a handful of small apartment complexes on the block. This isn't a mega complex, dorm style place. It's a simple two-story with eight units. Not showy, but not too shabby either. Excellent location, right across the street from Midtown Crossing complete with a Chipotle, Smart & Final, Lowe's, Ross, a ...Starbucks... the list goes on! And then there's a Ralph's a 5 minute walk down the street the corner of Pico and San Vicente. Whaaat? The apartment itself is good. I was lucky and got a recently renovated studio with Ikea cabinets in the kitchen cool sink in the bathroom at a mind boggling price. Good lay out of space. Thank you God it has a fridge and stove that are cute and working. There are two large closets for storage and a nook before the bathroom to place a bureau and room for overhead storage. Plenty of natural light cascading in from the three large windows of the common room. CONS: The walls are paper thin, and you hear EVERYTHING! Reception in the area sucks (Sprint). I usually make phone calls outside, in my car, or at the Starbucks because of constant dropped calls. Management has improved over the last year, however, they can be slow. They installed path lights this year which were much needed. The net on my large window was broken when I moved in and the blinds fell off the second day in, and three years later they're still not fixed despite my calls throughout the first year. There's no AC, and the windows don't let in enough air to alleviate the fear you might stop breathing in the middle of the night. Of the 6 windows, only 3 have a net so that they can be opened. The rest are basically for show, which has been tough this summer. Invest in dehumidifiers! Laminate wood flooring throughout save the bathroom which has an old floor tile (upgrade please!). You can't shower if someone else is because you get only scalding hot water. Real talk. This has been my home for the past three years, I've been through the good and the bad with this place, but overall, it's pretty good bang for the buck. Peter the landlord is a kind man. He's usually very responsive if you need to speak with him. Beware: The cat situation is intense on this street! And you will soon become numb to the the large barking dogs next door who seem to have nothing better to do than bark.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
