  • Mixed feelings (5 month resident so far)

    August 27, 2015
I know, not a very descriptive title, but I really do have very, very mixed feelings, but if you're actually thinking of moving in, read on friend! As a young woman from the suburbs, this is as close to the big city as I've ever lived, and its pretty darn close. That said, I feel so safe here. Most dangerous part about living here is having too much fun at one of the bars right next door, and then you don't even have to drive home! The neighbors are friendly and quiet (although it would be nice ...
if they didn't burn "incense" inside, not everyone is a fan), and the neighborhood only gets a little rowdy on weekends, but it's pretty easy to sleep through it. Be warned, we are on a pedal pub route.. That said, while I love my cozy home, it needs a little.. TLC. There is noticeable water damage on the ceilings, and the dishwasher has never worked. Whatever, I can wash dishes by hand (not that you should ever need to, we're just a few short blocks from eat street!) and I'm keeping a record of the water damage just in case. So we're good. We are absolutely NOT good on a few other things, namely the bugs. Picture a centipede without getting a chill down your spine. Now picture waking up with a centipede right above your head in the first week in your new home.. and then at least once a month after that. Not what I call fun, and I'm sure not everyone appreciates my blood-curdling screams when I wake to find one. Just kidding about the screaming, kind of. Now on to the really bad stuff. Just tonight, I found a cache of little tiny bugs hiding out in the popcorn ceiling in the bedroom. Guess the bug, and you win the grand prize! Did you say bedbugs? ding ding ding WE HAVE A WINNER, you've won: BEDBUGS! All jokes aside, I will be contacting the landlord tomorrow morning (taking up some very precious Minnesota State Fair time, amirite?). So, I will say this: if you don't like being itchy, wait to rent for a few weeks. Once the bugs have been dealt with, you'll want to be my neighbor, because for the price, this place is pretty okay. TL;DR Safe place for young people; fun neighborhood; walking distance to grocery stores, liquor stores, a huge variety of restaurants, and general entertainment/nightlife; decent parking situation; very affordable; bedbugs.

details
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on scale of 1 (below average) and to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider needs as part of the school selection process.
