East Harlem is the new hot spot!!
October 12, 2015Who would have thought 20 years ago that East Harlem would become this popular? The neighborhood is booming with adorable coffee shops and restaurants that are great for any generation. It's also safe to walk home at night, which was one of my main priorities when looking for an apartment. I've been living here for about a month now and it's starting to really feel like home. I live in a 1 bedroom apartment with an elevator for $1700 per month, which isn't too bad considering it's only a 6 ...minute walk to the 6 train station and has everything from fitness centers to Costco (super convenient and saves me so much money!!) to the public library within walking distance. The kitchen (which is cockroach free THANK GOD) is separate from the living room which I actually prefer, and there's plenty of counter space to cook and even room to add a little breakfast bar. Also, there's a garbage chute in the hallway so you don't have to go all the way downstairs to throw out garbage. The hardwood floor in the unit is new so it gives the place a clean fresh look along with the large windows in the living room. The living room is fairly open with dimensions of 15x10, enough to fit an entertainment center, sofa, lounge chair, and a dining table or a desk. The bedroom is on the small side I have to say. There's enough room to put a full size bed and a dresser but not much else. Luckily there's a closet in the bedroom and an even bigger one out in the hallway so there's plenty of storage space. The reason I give this place 4 stars is because the space my living room looks out on is like a little courtyard but filled with garbage that other people throw out from their windows, the lack of natural night (Some people don't mind that, but for me that was something I was looking for), and the bathtub being slightly old and grimy (I clean it once a week and within days it becomes dirty due to the sides of the bath crumbling). Overall though I'm fairly satisfied with the apartment and what the neighborhood offers.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
