Awful Place to Live
January 30, 2018The management is terrible and they don't pay attention when you ask them to fix something. Their solution is to just paint over everything. Broken toilet seat? Paint over it. Deep crack in the wall? Paint over it. 60-year-old sink in the bathroom? Paint over it. Asbestos ceiling tiles? Definitely paint over them. The only way they "renovate" is to just paint over everything and call it new. They also force illegal rent increases on you with the threat of eviction if you don't sign the new lease ...with the new, much-more-than-3%-increase on the front page. There is also the problem of the new lease contracts that they have started forcing people to sign under threat of eviction, a lease which states that the owner is not liable for any damages or repairs that happen in the unit, so if the oven explodes or the ceiling caves in or the floorboards give out underneath you, then YOU have to pay for the damage AND the subsequent repairs. The building was erected in 1957 meaning that 98% of the units have jalousie windows, the windows that are long horizontal slats that can easily be removed, allowing someone to break in quietly and effortlessly, and they are also incredibly energy inefficient as they never seal shut, so they always let in hot or cold air from outside. The units only come with half-sized range/ovens that barely work, and a nice, big, cobweb-and-dust-infested hole in the ceiling above the oven where there was once a vent for a different style of range. The bathrooms do not have fans, so the moisture level creates the worst case of black mold I've ever seen in a bathroom; a case of black mold that spread into the walls of the bedroom nearest the full bathroom. The only way to eradicate black mold is to destroy the fixtures it has grown into, but they certainly won't do this before a new tenant moves in, they'll just scrub it and paint over it! So when you start feeling groggy, stuffy, sniffly, sick, irritable, irrational, and foggy-headed, just know that it's the toxic mold poisoning settling into your organs. The building is also mere feet away from the I-10 freeway and a main road, so you'll get to hear cars driving, revving, honking, and crashing, as well as sirens wailing, all day and all night, and you'll get the added benefit of inhaling enough carbon monoxide to equal 2 packs of cigarettes per day! Do yourself a favor, find somewhere else to live.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
