Bad landlord
August 9, 2020I don’t recommend this rental to anyone. In the end, I regret choosing to live here. I initially liked that it was a family owned property with a landlord that seemed easy going and down to earth. I liked the walk up, cottage style with a cute courtyard covered with ivy. The very tiny studio I had looked charming enough when it was empty, but once i moved a couple basic pieces of furniture in, i realized just how cramped and claustrophobic it felt. I also soon discovered how loud it was. On ...one side of my apartment, I could hear my neighbor across the courtyard using the bathroom. Jam packed on the other side, was a parking garage that blocked fresh air/sun and instead amplified noise. My apartment would regularly get so loud, it would shake and rattle. That’s not including the constant traffic noise from fountain ave. It didn’t take me too long after moving In to know I was not happy living there. The landlord was unprofessional in the sense that every conversation we had he would direct to the subject of his deceased mom and the wrongdoings to her on behalf of the healthcare system. I should have taken that as more of a red flag from the start. It became emotionally taxing to hear this rant every time we spoke. Things started to break in the apartment while I was there; the front door, the stove, both of the sinks, the lights/fixtures themselves. There were occasions where the landlord would get flustered and raise his voice at me when I asked for maintenance, and if the repair was attempted, it wasn’t always fixed properly anyway. After a year and some months of renting from him, when I gave 30 days notice of moving out, he made it very difficult for me. He would not clearly convey what he needed of me in order to properly move out. He instead would become frantic and incoherently lose his temper with me. It was obvious that he was bitter and did not want me to go. I originally gave a security deposit of 1000. in the end, he refunded me only 100 of it. I was charged for everything you can think of. Including the replacement of old things that should have been replaced before I moved in. I learned this lesson the hard way. I never cashed the check or pressed the matter further out of respect for myself. I was just happy to be out of there and done with it.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
