Filthy
August 21, 2021We just moved a family member into this apartment. We weren’t expecting the Taj Mahal but were unbelievably disappointed in how filthy the apartment was. Everything was covered in grime and dirt from the baseboards to the ceiling and it was not furnished. For the price I would not recommend The Commons.Review from Apartments.com
It's insulting, it's bad
February 1, 2018When you choose to move in, you have to think about whether you are rich or not.The environment here is the worst and the price is very expensive. The attitude of the staff is very poor. Many students have lost Stuffs, and they often break into your room.If a stranger enters your room and wakes you up behind you, you don't have to think about it, it's their staff. It's terrible.Review from Apartments.com
HORRIBLE
November 1, 2017***Worst place I have ever lived! I am currently a student housing Property Manager so if that means anything then this review should give you some insight on this place. To start off, they tried putting me into collections for $150 for what they considered "cleaning charges," not to mention the $30 toilet cleaning charge. And because I do this for a living, when I moved out my apartment was spotless (no joke). This was back in 2014 and I'm still dealing with this place. I NEVER write reviews ...but this one should be reviewed by all parents and students who want to live here. So here are some helpful tips before moving in this place: 1.) ALWAYS make a copy of your Move-In Condition Form. 2.) ALWAYS take pictures of any damage prior to moving in...And I mean EVERYTHING (They charged me $5 for a light bulb replacement). Make sure the pictures are time stamped 3.) Good Luck if they change management. They will never honor what they tell you. Lastly, I currently have lawyers overlooking these charges so it goes to show you how much of a hassle this place has been. That was 3 years ago....DON'T LIVE HERE!Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
Review of Oxford Commons
August 24, 2015Oxford Commons has many nice amenities for the residence including a game room, tanning facilities, and an exercise room, though some of the pieces of equipment need some service. The staff is very helpful when paying rent or submitting a maintenance request but sometimes do not inform you if there is a package delivered for your unit that you need to pick up. The walls are somewhat thin and neighbors and their television shows can be heard when your room backs up to theirs.Review from Apartments.com
Love Miami Commons!
June 9, 2014The only complaint I have is because I don't have a car, so I have to rely on the buses to get anywhere. I LOVE my apartment though. And I love the roommates that were chosen for me. Over the last year, they have become my best friends. If you're looking for an inexpensive place to live (all utilities included# with everything you need PLUS great service #Gary is the best), you should come here. If I wasn't graduating, I'd continue my lease! Thanks to everyone here, you guys have MADE my ...college living experience!Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
Be Warned
October 15, 2013Honestly, these apartments are overpriced for what you're getting. The maintenance staff is slow (didn't acknowledge my request for over a month. Here's the real kicker: after I graduated, moved out, and moved to another state, these guys decided to say that my entire unit needed to be repainted, costing me $150. I know the condition of my apartment was perfect on move out, but I had no way to get back to the apartments to see for myself what the problem was, and they knew it. These criminals ...took advantage of the situation and sent a debt collector after me. I would avoid them at all costs.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
DO NOT MOVE HERE!
May 26, 2014DO NOT MOVE HERE! I literally cannot express how awful my experience living at the Oxford Commons has been since BEFORE moving in August and ever since after. First of all, you have to pay rent for the whole month of August but we're only allowed to move in the last week. Management said this was because they needed adequate time to clean the apartments after the former tenants moved out, which would have been understandable if the apartment was actually clean but when I walked in it was ...absolutely disgusting. The floors were coated in a thick layer of dust and dirt. Too this day after countless attempts to scrub them down after vacuuming, sweeping and swiffering (both wet and dry) they STILL turn my feet black, so I've given up and invested in a pair of house slippers. When I moved in their was also this musty smell which management claimed was from the carpet cleaning but I'm not entirely convinced that was the source of the stench because after unpacking and looking to put a few things under the bathroom and kitchen sink I found BLACK MOLD under my bathroom sink and some green mold under the kitchen sink. How had this problem gone unnoticed when the apartments were "thoroughly" inspected and cleaned by management!?!? While maintenance came and sprayed mold killer on it that day, it took them almost a week to "fix" the plumbing and cut out the rotted board. Within the next week I would have to put in a maintenance request twice. First, the air conditioning stopped working. It was constantly running but the temperature was always the same and disgustingly hot inside the apartment. For some relief, I tried to open my bedroom window but it immediatly fell down after unlocking it almost smashing my fingers. This let the part without a screen open, which let a swarm of bugs into my room as I struggled to get it shut again and lock it in place. This was a problem with both windows in my bedroom. While maintenance showed up that night with fans the air conditioning was not fixed for at least 3 days and my window took about a month to be fixed after I sent in a second request for it to be fixed and only one of my windows has been fixed. I've given up on getting the second one fixed because I just don't have time to deal with maintenance. After a few months of moving, while doing laundry, a load freight train noise came from the laundry closet and started shaking the whole apartment like an earthquake. I ran to the utilities closet and shut off the power to washing machine. When I opened the door of the washing machine, the rubber drum at been completely torn apart exposing a wire. Thank god I had been washing only jeans because it certainly would have ruined a lighter, more delicate material. Apparently this is a common problem with this model of washing machine and had actually happened to a few others at the same time. I took over a week to be fixed. To compensate the loss of our washing machine, management did let us use the model to do laundry but lugging laundry all the way across the apartment complex was a less than pleasant experience when the problem could've been fixed in a more timely manner. Then in the winter, I put in a least half a dozen maintenance requests regarding the thermostat an heating. It simply would run 24/7 and would never shut off when it go to the set temperature and TRUST ME, as a college student, I pulled a few all nighters in the winter and it NEVER shut off. At one point, it completely stopped working. Maintenance brought space heaters and it was "fixed" within probably a day or two but the fact that it constantly ran 24/7 was never solved. They replaced the batteries in it and even replaced the thermostat (supposedly, it was done while I gone over winter break so I'm not sure if it actually was replaced). Due to this, my electric bill was well over $200 in the winter which is ridiculous for a two-bedroom townhouse. The previous year I had lived in a 4 bedroom house and our electric bill was less than that in a much bigger and had more people using electricity. Absolutely ridiculous BUT my problems did not stop there. The black mold, which I had previously mentioned, returned under my bathroom sink. While maintenance had killed the mold and cut out the section under the sink that previously was contaminated, the leaking pipe that had caused the mold in the first place was still leaking and had not been properly fixed. After finding the mold the first time, I refused to put any of my stuff under the sink so I had not noticed the problem. As a write this review, I am again experiencing the same problem with the A/C I mentioned at the beginning of this review. Instead of putting in another maintenance request, I am writing this review to warn any one else who looks into living at the Oxford Commons (I imagine the same problems exist at the Miami Commons). It is a HUGE waste of money and not worth it for "the amenities." I will say that the maintenance men were very polite and tried to be helpful as much as they possibly could be. However, I do believe that when these apartments were taken over by the new management company (Capstone) and were "remodeled,” it was done poorly and cheaply so that they could hike up the rent (it's almost as much to rent an WAAYYYY nicer apartment in uptown Oxford - better location and nicer, safer and properly done finishes). Corners were cut and now these issues have fallen on a maintenance staff that is not prepared or capable of solving these problems. Management won't let them replace a lot of the out of date fixtures (just walk outside and look at the air conditioning/heating units – THEY ARE ANCIENT and none of them are the same and are in various stages of disrepair).Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
Love The Commons!
February 11, 2014I've lived here for 2 years and just renewed for next year! Everything is pretty much brand new, the apartment was very clean when I moved in, unlike other apartments I lived in before. I like that all of my bills are included in my rent and electric is not that expensive every month for the 2 bedroom! I didn't have a roommate my first year but they placed me with a girl that i get along with super well! I like that they are pet friendly too and can have my dog with me. They are always having ...free food nights for the residents so i have met alot of new friends. Wouldn't want to live anywhere else!Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
Great Place to live!
January 27, 2014I've lived at a different apartment pretty much every year and The Commons is the first place I've wanted to renew! It's not too far from campus and the price is great for what you get it's the only place in Ox that includes electric in the rent and I've never had a problem with the staff like previous places. Maintenance is quick and really friendly, my only complaint is the buses but thats more of Miami's fault.Review from Apartments.com
