A Wonderful Home With Room to Grow
September 20, 2015My ex-girlfriend and I shared a small one-bedroom apartment for five years after I moved in with her to save rent. When a much larger two-bedroom unit became available upstairs in the same building, I decided we should move despite my typical cautiousness when it came to financial matters. We were quite happy with that decision since it gave us a lot more room to breathe. (When my next-door neighbor dropped by for a visit, she kept repeating "It's huge! It's huge!") We had a pair of cats at the ...time and were looking forward to living in a home with a hardwood floor rather than carpeting that needed frequent cleaning. There is also access to more natural light compared to where we had lived previously. A year after we moved, my ex went to Maine to spend time with relatives and never returned, so I have the whole place to myself now. I was worried about being able to keep up with the rent, but the apartment is reasonably priced for my area and the increases haven't been extreme. Naturally, nothing is perfect and there are a few issues worth pointing out. The neighborhood is a quiet one, but there's an alley on one side of the apartment, so there is always the possibility of noise during early hours of the morning depending on activity there. Also, there is inadequate air conditioning during the summer. One of the bedrooms does have its own AC as well as an overhead fan, but the unit in the living room does not circulate the air enough to keep the bulk of the apartment cool during particularly hot days. And finally, the plumbing is problematic in that the toilet consistently gets clogged and needs to be plunged on almost a daily basis. But the location in Midtown Sacramento is great if you enjoy walking around town as I do. Others have encouraged me to move on a number of occasions (including my ex), but I'm quite content to stay where I am as long as I can continue to afford living there. The AC and plumbing problems I've been dealing with can likely be resolved with a little more time and money. Overall, this is a wonderful place to live with the potential to be even better.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
