Don't Lower yourself
January 12, 2018Don't do it. Find a place to rent that is owned by a stand up reputable, responsible, professional, honest and trustworthy decent person. I asked for an exit walk through because moving is expensive. And I wanted an idea of what to expect back from my security deposit. I was told that wasn't necessary. Now I find out if I ask, its part of the law. Too late. His lease says return the parking pass or be charged $150. I returned a pass, I was charged. As it turns out he issued TWO parking ...passes. So I looked and I did find a 2nd one in my car. I contacted his puppet-master (aka the onsite manager) 3 times to request my $150 back in exchange getvthe 2nd parking pass. She will not even grant me the courtesy and respect of a reply! Owner charged for preventive measures rather than "damages" per the code and exceeded the statutory $126 WITHOUT providing invoices or receipts. Now I will have to file an action in small claims costing me time & $75 filing fee, just to get at least $150 back. It's ridiculous. Just be honest. I protected his carpets with plastic protectors and my own rugs for the 6 years I lived there. I took care of the unit. There was way less than normal wear & tear.
