The Clinton House has been a part of the Poughkeepsie apartment community since 1765 when it was used as official headquarters of the new state government. It was damaged in a fire and rebuilt in 1783. Since then it has remained a vital part of the areas history and architectural culture. The house was named for George Clinton, former Governor of the state of New York but he never resided there.
