  • Current Resident - Don't move here - Not worth it.

    I currently live here (1 yr lease started 12/2017) and I will either break lease and move asap or leave one month early (overlap old and new place to get out of here sooner). Below are all the reasons this place is horrible. 1. The rent is more than they actually tell you, and they don't tell you until AFTER you have paid the application fee. They guise the rent rate as a discount for paying on time, but it really just gives them a lot of power legally/monetarily to threaten you with charging ...
    fees if you ask for anything from the billing office. 2. ROACHES - Both kinds - German and American kinds. 3. Mice - that's why they allow cats. 4. Def had bed bugs at one point that came from either the laundry room or neighbors. 5. Many of the tenants are FILTHY - I've encountered everszything from vomit on the hallway floor, spit on the floor, people leave their trash in the hallway, cigarettes put out on window ledges,and people throw trash all over outside the apartment. 6. They don't offer recycling - WHICH IS ILLEGAL 7. Something is wrong with the water because if you boil it for tea it gets an oily film on the top - don't drink! 8. The area and neighbors are very loud and inconsiderate of people who have jobs and need to sleep at night- once found a screaming infant in the hallway alone as neighbors put their infant in the hallway at cry itself out-this is a common occurrence. 10. Management doesn't feel any urgency to fix anything as we went without any working laundry in the building for 5 months, but they certainly feel an urgency to charge extra fees if you are even one day late with rent. Positives 1. The super is actually a solid guy. He does what he can within his means and will help if he can and does care. 2. When I have had an immediate problem the super would come fix immediately. 3. They do spray for roaches if you ask but I think they're spinning their wheels a bit, if people aren't clean you'll always have roaches. 4. They're at least clear about letting you know that if you break lease they'll just keep your security - since they know that will be common.

    Cons 1. Mice- they were negligent in remediation of the issue and sealing up holes in my apartment and the building 2. Possible lead (toxic heavy metal) in some of the walls in the apartments 3. Loud neighbors next door in the driveway and backyard parking area 4. Leaking water into the window sills 5. You have to constantly get on management to fix stuff when its broken 6. No off street parking. I was parking in a lot close to central ave but it has new owners that are trying to charge $100 for ...
    each space. Pros 1. The super is a really nice guy 2. Quiet neighbors inside the building 3. The kitchen and bathroom were updated

  • House of Horrors AkA 5 story dump.

    I've never lived in a building where the elevator is always broken. They only do patch work on the elevator and as soon as the patch work is done, the elevator breaks right back down. There is no on site parking spaces for most of the tenants so good luck with trying to find a place to park your car. Over night street parking is not allowed by the city of East Orange. I have little unwanted friends crawling around in my kitchen and bathroom floor and on the countertop. I am a very clean ...
    person so I cant understand why they are there. The owners of the building use to exterminate every second Saturday of each month but that has come to a stop. When calling the office to speak with someone all you get is the answering machine and good luck with anyone calling you back because it's just not going to happen. Most tenants here cant wait for their lease to end so they can get out of this dungeon. The loud tenants from the building next door hang out in the driveway next to 164 all the time. The tenants from next door are often seen on the steps infront of 164. There is only one driveway leading in and out of the small parking lot located in the back of 164 South Harrison. Because there is only one driveway, I believe an accident is sure to happen one day soon. The bottom line here, don't let the fake smiles and phony talk from the office staff fool you into signing a one year lease at 164 S. Harrison. The only good thing about this dump is the super. He has a heart of gold and would do what it takes to keep the building clean but he is only the super, and not the owner of the building.

    This place is terrible. I moved into this apartment on 08/2015. And it has been a nightmare ever since. First we saw roaches and the elevator wasn't working. They said they would fix it and they didn't. We sent a letter threatening to refuse to pay rent then they finally got an exterminator to get rid of the roaches. The parking lot is small and terrible, I pay $60 for a spot that people park in all the time. It is just not acceptable. Now the elevator hasn't been working. It works for one week ...
    then stops working. Now the big issue is the BOILER. It is old and they refuse to buy a new one. The hot water has been on and off for weeks and when you try to call the management office all you get is the voicemail. Do yourself a favor. If you care about your living conditions do not live here. If you dont care; welcome to your new nightmare. We as renters pay 1050-1650 monthly to live here and they do not care for the building. It's like where is my rent money going to?
