6 months to get my security deposit back
February 25, 2016I lived here for a year. One month after moving in, the management had us remove everything perishable and damageable by heat so they could treat the apartment for bed bugs. There is a walkway behind the complex for people to walk their dogs, but the tenants don't pick up after them so opening the rear facing windows is not advisable. Before moving out, I had informed the management over the phone and in person as to when I was leaving. I waited almost two months for my security deposit to come ...in the mail. Upon calling the manager, she didn't realize she had to give me the deposit. To clarify, my roommate ended up staying there and got a new roommate. They were living off the original deposit. I told the manager I would try to get the deposit from the new tenant to make things easy. After a couple months of the new tenant trying to get out of paying a deposit, I went back to the management to get my money. (After all, I didn't have a contract with the new tenant.) The manager kept saying "it's complicated" and "you never told us you were leaving". I sent multiple formal notices to the manager's supervisor about my leaving the premises and the manager's inability to explain why I wasn't getting my deposit back, to which they never responded. Eventually, the manager convinced the new tenant to pay me the money. This was 6 months after I had moved out. When I collected the money and asked the manager why it had become so complicated, she paused, as if trying to think of what to say, and then told me it was because I hadn't given them written notice of my leaving the apartment.Leer MásReseña de Apartments.com
