146 Orchard St
August 7, 2015I've lived at 146 Orchard for about two years and it's overall a pretty good home. It's bright and well-maintained, and my apartment gets a lot of natural light in the morning. The website says it was built in 1900, but it's been recently renovated and isn't recognizable as a pre-war at all. It's an elevator building, which is pretty rare for the area and it's a reasonable walking distance from the subways at 2nd Ave and Delancey/Essex Sts. It's a very busy neighborhood with a lot of boutique ...shops as well as the old-school New York textile and leather merchants. There's also a lot of nightlife, which means the area can be pretty noisy at times. There is a VERY noisy bar at the other end of the block and they're opening a three-story karaoke place a few doors down, and the building does not block out street noise very well. Also, the next-door neighbors' loud bass music isn't muffled at all, which is the biggest downside to the building. Overall, it's not perfect, but I like it a lot.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
