Poor management
March 8, 2022Lived here in 2020/1for 14 months. Apartment itself was fine and as expected for a UES apt (we were not new to NYC) and super was very responsive. However, management company is not invested in keeping the building up (took weeks to have hole in 1st floor hall repaired, loose tiles on stairs, no cleaning of halls, evidence of rodents in halls, broken window panes on stair windows for over a year)and while we had anticipated a rent hike due to changing market conditions, management company ...ignored us reaching out to renew until last possible day and then tried to raise rent more than 40%, which was significantly above comparable places in the area. They also, at the height of Covid and despite repeated requests to give notice, sent people to see the apartment with no notice at all to us. We ended up moving a few blocks away to a larger, better maintained, elevator building, for significantly less rent than owner of 319 E83 asked for renewal. We also noticed the ad posted for our apt had incorrect info re amenities and used pics of a different apartment. Overall, would have been happy to stay if rent increase had not been unreasonable (over $1000), but in the end am very happy we didn’t stay because it is clear there are significant issues with building management; it became clear almost the entire building moved out when we did. The only redeeming quality of the building is the super.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
