Income Based and Feel Trapped

I got this studio apartment through a program I was in. I was in need of one because I was on the verge of being homeless from being kicked out my grandmother's home. I have been here over a year, they are income based apartments I don't pay much. The issue is they are about to tear them down, and I don't have children so the chances of me getting a section 8 voucher is slim to none. I am worried because I don't want to be moved to the other street where it's just filled with so much trash, ...
violence and etc. I am a young struggling college student that wants to just take a leap and get a regular apartment but I am not sure if I could afford because the prices have went up so high. I work a part time job bringing home less than what the monthly rent will be. I don't want to seem like I am complaining because I am thankful and grateful to have my own apartment; however I just think it's time I just do it. I just need the help, and this contest will definitely put me in a great space to where I can truly take care of myself and continue to put my life on the right track.
