Manhattan Studio With Lots Of Space
September 8, 2015The building at 416 East 81st Street in Manhattan is nondescript walk up building, and has absolutely nothing fancy or opulent about it, but the inside of my apartment is very nice. All the apartments in the buildings are the exact same, mirror image studios of each other. They're really nice though, and have plenty of space. The best parts are that the kitchen and bathroom are separate (located down a short hallway), making the living space feel like just that -- true living space. I have ...enough floor space to have a Queen sized bed, a futon couch that seats three across, and a partition separating the "bedroom" and "living area." Plus a bistro table and a dresser. Another highlight of the apartment is all the storage space. There is a closet with sliding doors, AND a linen closet with enough walk-in space to also hold a shoe rack. The ample storage space was a huge selling point for me. Both closests have shelves that extend all the way up to the ceiling, so it's a huge plus how much you can store. Also in the kitchen there are plenty of cabinets, a full sized fridge (rare in a studio!), an oven, and ample storage underneath all the counters. I have one large south-facing window that lets in lots of natural light. Outside my window is a private courtyard. There's one washer and dryer in the basement, however I don't use them, as it's not so clean down there. One downside to the apartment. The major downside of the apartment building is its location. Being between First and York really makes you feel away from things and like you need to budget lots of time to get anywhere. Particularly on days with bad weather, it truly seems like a hike to get to the closest subway, the 6 Train at 77th and Lex. And the 79th street bus is not very regular. I've found it to be very sporadic, and to have long waits. However the neighborhood has a lot to offer, with myriad diners, a grocery store, a CVS, and lots of little food shops. Plus there's a Fairway on 86th between 3rd and 2nd, which is a huge bonus, as its one of the largest grocery stores in the city. However for the closest Starbucks, you have to either go to York or to 2nd Avenue. Overall the apartment is really nice and you get lots of space for your money. I'm very happy living here, and plan to renew my lease. I would recommend living here to anyone!Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
