livin the dream
July 28, 2015I love my apartment. I've been here going on five years, it's rent controlled and the market in the SF/ bay area is exploding and honestly just scary. I'm an artist and live by myself now with a studio and a bedroom. The kitchen and bathroom are very cute and everything was new because the tenants before me were a mother and daughter who lived here for 16 years (or so I heard). I burn sage/ smudge often, to keep it all mellow. It's an older building so insulation and soundproofing are on vacation ...but it's charming and has original funky hinges and details I like. My bedroom is small but fits everything I need ( like my tamagotchi collection..) and gets great light. Living alone now made any roomie stress etc in the past worth it, and i'm happy I stayed. I found the place by driving around with my mom and calling as soon as we saw the sign. Especially in tough markets my best advice is to walk or drive around your desired neighborhoods often. You can find things before they're online, and as we all know, once online it's like the fishnet 'swim down' (with great references) scene in Finding Nemo. So keep swimming or strolling until you find your place and then strike. Also you might meet a landlord you get along well with who will remember you for a space that suits your needs when it opens, so stay in touch! I rent from a larger rental company, and sometimes their automated messages are intense but in general i've had a great and easy experience with them. (ps confession time, there were two numbers listed for the place when we first found it. We called and the guy said it was taken, we called the other number just because and she said they were approved but hadn't payed the security deposit yet... [maybe they changed their minds] but the lesson is to move fast and things might work out even when you don't expect them to) xoxoRead MoreReview from Apartments.com
