BEWARE THIS LANDLORD IS NOT WHO YOU THINK!
September 9, 2017I met this landlord through a friend and she seemed like a really stand-up person who, though a little chatty, cared about her tenants and apartments. After meeting her daughter on the first floor, husband, other tenants and going through what turned out to be a long checklist of things I needed to help with the apartment, I wrote her a check and got keys to the unit so I could begin painting (I agreed to paint). This was a DONE DEAL and I was so excited to move in--I felt assured by them and I ...had keys to the unit. I scheduled movers, provided her will all my relevant info (everything from a ss card to my passport to my criminal background), I purchased paint after going back and forth with them for days, and bought furniture. This lady (Jerri) tells me one morning that she needs proof of income and I provided her with each including a bank statement with 4 times the rent in it AND my current landlord references. She then asked I return her keys as she decided to list the apartment through a realtor (who would not get paid if I rented the unit so that wasn't going to happen and she knew it). SHE COMPLETELY BACKED OUT leaving me with gallons of paint, moving cancellation fees, and I had to pay to ship the furniture back. Because I was a decent person, I gave her back her keys but I lost almost $1K because I believed this woman. Don't make the same mistake with her or her agent, who, I suspect talked her into backing out for them to get paid. I was not given a reason for this change of heart which is 100% a fair housing violation and she didn't give me a dime for my losses.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
