Great views, questionable on everything else.
September 10, 2015Now I've lived in this apartment for a good while, since '98 to be exact. When I moved in it was a vast improvement to the literally rat-infested house on base, and there wasn't any water running through electrical features, bonus! Sadly that rosy feeling has waned over the past few years, mainly with the unregulated and often drastic rent increases. They often play this off as offsetting the costs of upkeep and improvements, but that doesn't really pan out. I mean sure my possibly 30 year old ...stove or the refrigerator won't be replaced, and they still can't get someone in to fix the drainpipe that dumps water everywhere when it rains, but hey, they took out the shade trees and put in a now-wilting garden, classy! For ages they were the overpriced option that unfortunately was close to all the things my family needed, but now sadly they're the "cheap" option... which means soon they're going to bump up the rent to over two grand per month. We'd honestly love to move to a place that actually has a third bedroom (so that one of us doesn't live on the couch), but in this complex that bumps it up to about three grand. Because you know, a thousand dollars per person for space that's technically a room and 50% of a bathroom is fair, right? Unless you're the owner of this property or live in New York, the answer to that question is "no". Mind you the amenities are okay, if you don't mind fighting over them with roving herds of children and guys who never quite grew out of that "bro" phase. There is a pool, hot tub, and tennis court, though the last one is rarely maintained, and the pool is even worse off. Through a lack of care in anyone cleaning up, the bottoms of many of the chairs are rusted, and so there's also a fair bit of rust and other possibly toxic debris lining the bottom of the pool. the hot tub is better, but for a good week once there were bits of broken bottles and bloody bandaids around the area. But hey, wear a hazmat suit and you can swim and enjoy the hot tub all you like! Which still might be the best option here, as what passes as the air conditioner doesn't do the trick at all. You see the architect brilliantly decided that the one source of cooling for the entire house should be placed in the corner closes to the back door and (for those who have it) the fireplace. What do people do if they don't want to- or can't live in the living room? Well I've narrowed it down to fan relay, or baking to death. so, perhaps avoid this place.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
