  • Sexy apartment in a terrible building with hot water issues

    July 22, 2015
I moved here in March of 2015. The apartment was gutted and remodeled and I'm the first tenant in it. The rest of the building looks like a war zone. It's half under construction. I was told that it would all look great within a few months. The hallways are still all wall board, rusted metal, and a bunch of different colors of paint. The front door was broken and terrible. That got fixed and is now a nice door with a working buzzer system. The mailboxes look terrible and half of them ...
don't lock. When I got here, the hot water didn't work. It took me a while to figure out that the handle on the shower was installed backwards and hottest part of the water is when you turn the dial all the way to blue (cold). Even with that, I've had repeated incidents of no hot water. The hot water is ok during the day or most evenings. The problem comes when I get up in the morning. In my opinion, the water boiler isn't big enough for the building. Now for the apartment - huge bedroom with a walk in closet with two bars and lots of hooks and shelves. The bedroom fits two bureaus, my queen bed with frame, folding chairs, my piano keyboard and stool, and still has a small area rug. One wall is exposed brick. There is a window into an air shaft so I can vent my ac. The bathroom is beautiful and brand new. It needs a cabinet, but I've made it work with a hanging shoe holder behind the door. The living room and kitchen combo also has an exposed brick wall. I have one great large window onto the back patio that has two new fences. With some tlc, I've got some ivy growing on the back metal fence. The kitchen has all new appliances, cherry cabinets, a gas stove, microwave, and bottom freezer-refridgerator along with marble counter tops. There isn't a lot of counter space, but you can make it work with a large cutting board over the sink. The living room kitchen space isn't very large, but my sleeper sofa does fold out and still have room for one to use the kitchen carefully. The landlord has been responsive to texts. Although I've seen dead roaches in the hallway, I've yet to see any in my apartment (something I hate). The fumigator comes once each month. Right now, there is ample street parking for my car on most days. I anticipate that changing soon, though, with two other full remodels happening right next to my building. The neighbors have been super nice. It's not too noisy at night. Landlord is redoing all apartments.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on scale of 1 (below average) and to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider needs as part of the school selection process.
