August 17, 2015I moved into this apartment in June; two weeks later, it was listed as for sale, and not knowing what the new rent may be, I would love free rent for life. It is a street front apartment, in a rowhouse, and gets the afternoon sun. Built sometime in the 1800s, it carries a plaque, signifying it as a place of historical significance because William Welch, on the first faculty list at Johns Hopkins School of Graduate medicine and who later became known as the "Dean of Modern Medicine," ...lived here from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. He boarded and rented the second floor, but then he moved. This unit has a fireplace, which is blocked but authentic and made of marble. It's a small one bedroom, a nice kitchen and bathroom. Wood floors that could stand refinished and a few minor repairs necessary to the building, more preventative than anything else. Great old staircase, that needs a little work. Really authentic looking. It's possible to see a grand old house here. The building allows pets, which is nice. The street sounds are soothing, as is the vibration, and there's onstreet parking for just $28.00 or so a year. That could change if the city turns St. Paul two-way. Really it is upsetting that the building is being sold, though, and I feel I should have told this before we signed the lease. It's not as if I've lived here for years and I feel it was significant information both in terms of future rent hikes, renovation, and showings. I'd buy the building myself...it's right centrally located in downtown Baltimore in a safe neighborhood. Unfortunately, I don't have the money to buy it, but if I get free for life! Who knows? I can save up! Then, I'll be paying free rent to myself? This is an attempt at an honest review.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com

August 14, 2015I live in a building that is recognized as having national historical significance, 935 Saint Paul Street. William Welch, among the first faculty members at Johns Hopkins School of Graduate Medicine, and who carried the nomer, "The Dean of American Medicine," at his death, boarded there. He lived on the second floor, the same as do I, though no doubt he had the run of the whole floor and kitchen facilities downstairs. The building is presently up for sale, and that's why I can't give it ...five stars; that, and the fact that it needs a few repairs right now, before it begins to need a lot of repairs. I moved in early in June and the only drawback have been regular viewings by the realtor. I was not told the place would be posted for sale two weeks or so after I moved in. The building itself? Three floors, seven units, which includes five efficiencies and two one-bedroom apartments. I live in a one bedroom, with my two cats! Another great plus! Allows pets without a pet deposit or a monthly charge. The units have high ceilings and each unit has a marble fireplace! I think they could be made functional, but right now, they're closed off. I use it to light incense once a week after cleaning. At the top of the inner doors, there are authentic glass slats that tilt in and out. It has the look and feel of another century. Radiator heat, so the utility's low in the winter. A ghost or two? Probably just an active imagine there. Wood floors, uncarpeted, which need the finishing refurbished, but are in good shape. The bathroom and kitchen are modern and the bathroom has a fan which can be made to run for ventilation purposes. Gets the late afternoon sun from 2:30 on, but the suns shadow takes up a bigger slice of the floor up to the summer solstice, and then begins to wan. I don't think I'll ever be in the shade, though, and I imagine those lengthening rays feel good in January, but less so, of course, in June. On a cool, June day, which I actually had, though, it felt like a solarium. Wonderful! Streetside, but somehow the vibration from the traffic is soothing. They may turn St. Paul two way in the future, which is something to think about. Right now, though, onstreet parking's available, year round, for about $30.00 per year.
