Very dirty ,not safe, loud place to live .
October 5, 2023I lived in this building for 2,years . Windows sound protection is level zero.I could hear all loud people ,music ,karaoke from Tuesday to Sunday . Always smells trash all over the hallway.Messy people brought roaches and management doesn’t care about that much and they still have it. The pool is always dirty in summer season. There is only 3 elevators for the whole building , located separately but always busy or broken . Homeless people could get inside from outside stairs and there is always ...smell. This prices are not worth it. Even in parking garage, with only residents keys access, ppl stole things from the cars.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
The good reviews are years and years old
February 8, 2023Please take a look at the chronology of these reviews. Do not live here. It is not safe, it is not clean, it is not well maintained and no one is accountable for any of it.Review from Apartments.com
Heartless & Broken
January 23, 2023Having lived here for two years the place has only gone downhill. Trash chute breaks and every unit around it gets roaches. Elevators go out of service at least once a month if not more frequently in the last year. Fire alarms will sound for half an hour at a time especially on days when the office staff aren't in. Then there's the issue of the mail room thefts. I've personally had hundreds of dollars worth of packages stolen either from the mailroom or right from my front door when I was told to ...have items routed to my unit rather than to the mailroom to avoid theft. While the on site staff are over all pleasant they can't actually fix any of the problems with this property so don't be convinced by nice people this place is a dump and will continue to stay that way while jacking up the rents on literally everyone in the building.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
Going downhill for the last couple years
January 15, 2023We moved in two years ago, and we were ecstatic. Now? Gym AC does not work, reports of homelessness trying to break into apartments, unresponsive management, packages stolen DAILY, we have mold in the ceiling, elevators not working pretty often, dirty hallways, and of course, an increase in rent. What started very well, went downhill pretty quickly as people left the office and new management came in. Would not recommend, do yourself a favor and move somewhere where there is no dog poop in the ...hallways.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
unsafe building do not live here.
December 27, 2021The company that owns the building is doing everything it can to make us feel unsafe here. They removed the safe lockers and now half of our packages are getting stolen and the building is doing nothing about it. One of the reasons we moved into this building is specifically because of the lockers. There has also been a string of car break ins and they finally fixed the fobs after months of our building being wide open. do not move here if you want to feel safe in your own home.Review from Apartments.com
A Mixed Bag
June 29, 2021I currently live here and it's okay, but there are a LOT of negatives. My downstairs neighbors are very rude and blast music all hours of the day and night. I have repeatedly complained and nothing happened. The hot water did not work for a couple weeks and even now it takes a few minutes for the water to get hot. There is a lack of storage, since there is no pantry you have to fit your dry foods and pots and pans together and if you're into cooking you will find the cabinets fill up fast. There ...is nowhere to take dogs to go out except the courtyard and many people like to complain about dogs going to the bathroom in there. You can't go out up to the apartments from the garages except in elevators, so if the elevator was broken you would have to walk all the way around to get to the back stairs. "Quiet time" is at 10pm but nobody seems to respect that rule at all. One major negative is the crime!! There have been so many issues with homeless, break-ins to apartments, security doors not closing, and the car gate is constantly breaking every other week. I witnessed a robbery from within the gated car garage and the guy was able to leave because the gate was wide open! There was a homeless man sleeping in the first floor hang-out area; he was able to get past TWO security doors. Those doors are constantly broken and left wide open. The security guard doesn't seem to be here during the day. Homeless litter the area and I am scared to go outside alone as a young woman. I don't like going to the park because homeless people tend to be mean and aggressive and scream at me and camp throughout the park. Though despite the negatives the restaurants across the way are very good and I especially enjoy the Japanese ramen restaurant. Pizza Man near the Ralph's is also very good. As for the unit, it's small and cramped, but the place was clean, had new carpet and the maintenance guys are nice, quick and responsive. The bathtub is large and you can easily relax and practically swim in it. I like all of the amenities and the pool is heated and always very clean and there are lounge chairs and barbecues as well. Most of the other tenants are friendly. When the in-unit laundry machines broke it was quickly replaced with a brand new one. I like the blinds because they're wooden and not those cheap plastic ones. The ceilings are tall as well which I like. I like the balcony, it's a good size, but our view is very lackluster as it's an up-close view of a neighboring building.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
Unsafe
March 28, 2021Start off Mgmt is nice and all staff but so much crime and patrol doesn’t do anything. I got a text from them tonight after my guests were threatened worh a knife over our guest parking. Called police no one showed up and so text courtesy patrol and told them and their response was they get threatened and they are over it. No good. Homeless is out of control. But this building was nice before staff doesn’t care. They may but maybe higher ups don’t care. When the office closes even when open guest ...parking is a nightmare. Several emails saying they will tow etc and nothing is ever done. It’s sad. We want to move so bad but since covid hit and not working it’s hard. We asked to move apartments but since we have a special pricing they need doctors note. Also, our cars have been broken into told the office and field police report and police said they’re not allowed to see camera footage. Also 99% of them don’t work. Loved this place before the Mgmt staff turnover is constant and seems less and less they care. Shooting, apt break ins So scary and unsafe and they have a month to month option and people move out at all times of the night leave furniture all over. And they don’t care so sad. Like I said their nice humans but as Mgmt goes not good at all. These times wouldn’t recommend this place at all.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
It was not a home.
July 30, 2015I moved into Academy Village in summer of 2014. They have a keyed entry gated, underground garage in which my bike was chained to a column next to my car (because they didn't provide bike racks for residents). I thought my bike would be safe, as I had it for a few years and lived in the Noho area that same amount of time. Less than a week after I moved in, someone cut my bike lock with bolt cutters in the UNDERGROUND garage! Now, I get that it is "not their responsibility", however... They also ...advertised that they have CCTV and security cameras on the property. When I asked them about this they said that they have SOME but none in any garage or at any garage entrance meaning there was no way to tell if it was an employee or resident, which is my suspicion, because it was a gated entry with a remote. The gate stayed broken half the time so that is a circumstance out of my control and if my bike was stolen because of that, then I do believe it is Academy Village's responsibility. But this is the past and I have since moved on. I did however enjoy the amenities, specifically the dance studio. The elevators were always a pain in the butt however, and you can take the stairs to leave the building but you can't take the stairs to get back in the building. So if one elevator is reserved or broken (which it was over half the time I stayed there) then everyone in the entire complex is using one or two main elevators to get to their apartments. I would like an option to take the stairs. It's not a place for everybody, some people may love it but I personally feel like I overpaid for a year in a mediocre complex that I didn't feel safe in.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
I've Died And I'm Living In Dog Heaven
August 17, 2015Los Angeles is a rough place to own one dog, let alone two, but our collies were welcomed with open arms, even though they haven't worked a day in their lazy lives. And it seems like every other neighbor has a fuzzy friend, so you know you're in good company! But in all seriousness: Academy Village is the place to be. The office staff is wonderful; the maintenance workers are fast and friendly; and the units themselves are spacious wonders of the world. Plus: no extra payment for a gym ...membership, just head downstairs. And who doesn't enjoy having the option to be a little greener? Ditch the car, save the gas money, and break out your sneakers. You're within a mile of literally everything: grocery stores, bars, cafes, a comic store, and dozens of restaurants. Get back in the car and you're on top of at least three different freeways. Did I mention the covered/gated parking? Never get caught in the rain again, never worry about finding street parking on a Friday night. That's not to say it doesn't have faults: living too close to the pool can sometimes be annoying if you're not as social or have pets that spook easily; you either love or hate the neighborhood's hipster vibe; and yeah, it's definitely expensive. But it's worth every penny. My boyfriend and I are in our second year of living here and we hope to stay for a third.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
