Do not live here; despite the location, management makes this place unlivable
July 12, 2016I moved into the apartment and discovered that there were fire alarms missing, holes in the walls, stains on the counters and in the carpet, broken/missing blinds and screens, many many other issues, and most importantly, a huge BURNED HOLE in the carpet. The burn was as if someone had left a hot iron on the ground for hours. This was obviously immediately reported and also had service requests submitted to address the burn and the other items listed. It took months for most of these to be ...addressed, and yet the burn in the carpet was never addressed. They simply deleted the service requests for it and ignored it. To add the icing to the cake, the management still decided that I would be charged for the "carpet cleaning fee," which is utterly ridiculous since those carpets are likely 10 years old and HAVE BURNS IN THEM. They illegally overcharged everyone who lived in the building by ignoring the rent control limits that they were supposed to be held accountable to. Once they were forced to recognize this and lower the rents, they claimed to have never overcharged people, although the rent was thousands of dollars more PER MONTH than what it should have been. For me personally, it is even worse. They quoted me a rent increase of over $300. This absurd amount made this apartment unaffordable, and effectively meant that I had to leave. Once I found a new place, but before I signed the lease, I called equity to confirm that the rent was still going to be increased by $300. They CONFIRMED THE INCREASE, but less than 24 hours later, they informed everyone that that price was no longer going to be correct. Too late for me, I guess, since I would never want to stay with a company like this anyway. However, they not only lied to me about the rent, but they then made me jump through hoops to not pay fees to move out early. I am currently jumping through even more hoops to get a reimbursement of $1,000 despite them essentially cheating me out of ~$12,000. I've been forced to email 4 or 5 different managers of managers since nobody seems to have the authority, and it's already been 3 months since I've moved out of the building. All in all, it makes me sad that companies like this are allowed to operate. I wish I could spend more time listing all of the other things they've done to me, such as never updating the front door with my name, overcharging me for utilities, and mocking me for asking for things in writing.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
