  • Bats in SH building

    September 11, 2023
Lived in a renovated unit that had bats living in the roof above the bedroom. A bat got in and maintenance removed it. They also “sealed up potential areas any can get in” however, they did not relocate the bats as they should’ve. Then management had the audacity to try and raise the rent pretty drastically despite the issue not being resolved. They said they would be willing to relocate me to an unrenovated unit for the same rent I was paying until the 2 months of my lease were up but then I’d ...
be subject to the increase and it would have been almost as much as the increase in the renovated unit. Hope whoever got the apartment after me was notified of the bats and didn’t discover it by hearing the noises on their own and if they did - I hope they called the health department.

The apartments are nice. Management is responsive and the maintenance staff is friendly and helpful.

  • Should have listened to the reviews, AVOID

    May 6, 2022
Should have listened to the reviews about Navarino across apartments.com, not just at Beacon Mills. Long story short, couldn't get a hold of anyone in the office for two weeks after multiple emails and voicemails. Finally caved and applied against my better judgement. $100 application fee! And then no word from Beacon Mills that it was even received. Finally went into the office, and they explained that because I was applying with my partner, she would also have to cough up $100. Not a ...
downpayment on an apartment or even a guarantee of an apartment, just $200 out the window. Go elsewhere, this isn't worth your time. Unless you like sending $100 or $200 to an office that is unreachable unless you go in person. In which case, go for it!

  • You get a pretty apartment and that's about it

    July 7, 2021
The environment and apartments are beautiful. You pay your rent and you have a place to live, and that's about it. When things go wrong, no one will respond to you, not the property manager, the leasing office, and don't get me started with maintenance. Dishwasher leaks, and has leaked for a year now, I must have called maintenance 10 times and they insisted they had a new machine they'd install, but that never happened. The roof here needed to be replaced and was being put off, so there are ...
stains on the ceilings of apartments, and they won't respond to that either. The neighbors here are very odd. People screaming at the top of their lungs, neighbors playing very loud music and performing strange rituals that the entire hallway can hear. People here are not supposed to be smoking, yet the hallways and sometimes even my own apartment reeks of cigarettes and weed. I've called many times about this but to no avail. I have had to call complaining about a dog barking 24/7 in a room and threatened to call animal control in fear that this dog was in distress. Also there is a major bug issue in these apartments. The windows are original and myself and many others have experienced bees coming through the windows. Maintenance told me "there's nothing they can do about it," forcing me to go out and take action myself, which is what I'd do if I owned my own house. The point of renting is for the landlord to handle issues, not the tenant. I also have stories of friends who currently live here: hot water heaters exploding, causing damage to apartments and those beneath, and maintenance has done nothing. Hoarders. My favorite, someone here accidentally fired a gun into the wall of a tenant's apartment. If you're OK with being completely on your own and you like the scenery and beautiful apartments, then go for it. Otherwise, here's how things can be better here: 1) Maintenance, actually respond and fix things. 2) The property manager should be more present and address issues like the no smoking policy, screaming, disturbing/loud neighbors, ceiling staining, the bugs/bees getting in through windows, etc 3) at least act like you care. I have left countless voicemails and no one even takes the time to get back to me. That would at least show you care about your tenants.

  • Awful place - staff doesn’t care

    September 8, 2020
Don’t rent from here. Staff is awful - no one ever responds to email or calls. Maintenance doesn’t care either. Had a flood no one came for 3 days to fix it. We have to fix things ourselves. Place is very noisy with the old floors. The lobby looks like the overlook hotel in the shining too

  • Don't rent from Navarino

    March 9, 2020
I had Navarino in the previous place I rented. I moved here when if was owned by a different company which wasn’t much better. Then they bought this place and they immediately showed that they were more interested in getting new tenants rather than keeping their current ones happy. I, like many residents have had old rotting, leaky, drafty windows in desperate need of replacement. Navarino chose to ignore that fact and instead spent money upgrading vacant apartments. They did replace some some ...
windows however they were mostly in those vacant. The moral of the story is don’t rent from Navarino!

  • Falling Apart

    February 26, 2020
These other reviews are clearly written by whoever owns this place at the time. It's changed owners 3 times in the last 2 years. Impossible to get property manager or maintenance on the phone or by email. You basically have to ambush them in their office. Even in an emergency, you are totally on your own. The whole building lost power for 4 days with no emergency lighting and both manager and maintenance left the premises for the duration, dodging phone calls. The apartments are beautiful ...
with high ceilings and huge windows. The building would look great from the outside except for the surrounding area. The grounds have been torn up by some kind of truck mischief and have been left with piles of soil upended for months. Heads up for those moving in: The elevator routinely breaks and is out of service for days, almost always because of people using it for furniture so be careful. Some kind of wasps invade the units every summer, so avoid if you are allergic.

  • Avoid!!

    February 28, 2019
Avoid this place at all costs. The insides of the units are really cool with the brick and beams - but it is not worth it!!! For what you are getting, price is way too high. We had a leak in our skylight for over 6 months that they would never fix - and it leaked so much every single time it rained. I found out upon moving out that the reason it was never fixed was because the roofer was waiting for months of back payment from the complex, and wouldn’t return until they paid him. ...
Really?!?! Hallways/staircases always filthy. They had someone come to replace the hallway lights, and they just left crap all over for weeks before cleaning it. Not great when you have to walk through the hallways with your dog who eats EVERYTHING! Laundry room was decent but always had multiple machines broken at a time, and it is on the residents to call Mac Grey to come fix them!! After living there for a while, someone else in the complex committed an attempted home invasion and assault when I was home alone. It was awful and the management company could not have handled it worse. They fought on evicting him, and refused to let us break out lease since we no longer felt safe with this individual still in the building. Avoid this place!!!

  • Love it here.

    November 9, 2017
This is a great community with both very friendly staff and tenants. The apartments are beautiful and very unique. This property was once a rubber factory, and was later a wool factory until it was converted into apartments. That being said, the units have a modern/industrial aspect to them which for this price range is amazing. My apartment has beautiful, thick wooden beam ceilings, high windows and tremendous amount of storage space with a very nice kitchen with modern stainless steel ...
appliances. Its very pet friendly as it seems almost everyone in my building has dogs. The property itself is gorgeous, and has waterways with walking bridges and nicely kept pathways between all the buildings. You will feel very welcome here and safe as well. This is the type of community where you can leave your doors unlocked without any fear of theft. I plan to be a resident for a very long time.

  • Fair prices, spacious rooms.

    September 3, 2015
Beacon Mill Village was the first apartment I lived in after college. For a person straight out of college with their first job, it was a great place with on-site laundry facilities, an outdoor pool in the summer months, tennis courts and a gym all inclusive. And for around $1000 a month you get a spacious area in a quiet location, and a Metro North station 5 minutes away for trips in the city. However, if you're looking for things to do at night, you may need to take a ride down to the ...
Milford/Fairfield area for more variety. Also, the bathrooms could use a little more ventilation, mold can grow on the ceilings rather quickly. The pros are much greater than the cons though, and I would recommend it if you're looking for a starter apartment complex.

  • Lovely grounds

    May 9, 2014
A lovely, quiet apartment complex with fitness facilities, tennis and pool. Apartments are all quite unique, as befitting the fact that this was once an old mill. Original brickwork and thick walls add with heating and cooling of units. Neighborhood is quaint, nice recreational park within 5 minutes of driving.
