Renter Beware
December 29, 2021I was a tenant of GlenLake Village (formerly Brookview Village) from August of 2016 through August of 2021. During that time we had three different management companies, the most recent being Greystar. The Pros: -Apartments are generously sized. Good schools. Near the expressway. -Greystar has definitely improved the exterior grounds. -Maintenance team member Victor (who has been there for 15+ years) is kind, considerate, and is the only shining star on staff. He deserves a substantial ...raise for his hard work and dedication to the property and its tenants. The Cons: -Greystar seems unprepared for the scope of work needed to manage a complex of this size and age. The front office (including the assistant property manager and property manager, Peggy and Tina) give a lot of lip service to requests but minimal to no action is taken. They don't respond to e-mails or voicemails, give vague responses, don't follow-up when they promise to, and don't act on behalf of tenants and former tenants. (Ex: a structural engineer checked the balconies, mine was determined to be structurally unsound. No follow-ups, though promises that "we're having a meeting on that this week" was offered several times.) -Your lease states that you won't receive your deposit until 30 days after your lease ends. My lease ended August 19 and I received my check on December 28. This was after *substantial* time and energy contacting the GlenLake front office staff (who rarely replied), showing up to speak with them when they didn't reply, contacting Greystar local HQ (no response to two messages), submitting a Better Business Bureau complaint, as well as finding several employees on LinkedIn and sending them messages (the Illinois Broker responded, and helped facilitate getting me my money). No formal apology. No message from the front office to see if I've received it. Recommendation: -If you do choose to live here, be aware of what you're getting into. Read that lease carefully, and if you need help to understand it, find someone who can help you. -Check your bills, particularly after re-signing your lease. Screenshot your payments and send them to yourself. -Don't contact Greystar through the phone or in person if you can avoid it, so that you always have a digital trail of your communications. If you use their online platform to communicate, take screenshots and send them to yourself so that you have a record of it. Advocate for your needs and don't let up.Property Manager Responded

December 23, 2021Absolutely horrendous.. if I can convince just one person not to come here I feel I have made a positive difference in the world. We have had a broken fridge, microwave, and balcony since moving in and nothing has changed. We have had to threaten legal action to even get a call back, despite multiple meetings and calls no action has been taken. The management team will simply ignore any problem you give up, we are deliberating taking them to court (something I have never considered in the past). ...They are that bad, sometimes the water will just shut off as well with zero explanation. Great things are happening
November 11, 2021Today I called the office and Ashley answered. I stated that I thought my thermostat was broken, 15 minutes later Matt was at my door. He cleaned the filter and replaced the blower motor. Thank you for being so friendly and prompt. I have been here over 15 years and I am enjoying all the great changes and the wonderful staff.
