Renters Reviews and Ratings
This place is nice
January 31, 2020Rent is controlled and subsidized with minimal increases each year. Water and electric are included you just pay for your cable and internet which we all know Spectrum is pricey. There is cable TV in common room and coffee is usually on. They also have a nice fitness room with a stationary bike and treadmill and a cable tv also so you can watch a show while you get your excercise. People out walking the grounds and pick up after their dogs. Its a nice Apartment building.Review from Apartments.com
Overpriced and Dirty
May 18, 2019Rent goes up every year 20-30 dollars, which is a pretty hefty chunk for seniors. We do not have disposable income. In a few years, the rent is now taking away from my medications and food, and since there is no bus service, and no bus transportation around Owego Gardens, my wife and I must go without things we need. There simply is no way to get around, aside from the exorbitant fares the cab company charges. Inside Owego Gardens, the trash rooms are deplorably dirty, with rodent droppings and ...flies around opened, smelly bags of trash. Tenants let others in at night to rummage through the trash and sleep in the common areas. Owego Gardens is filthy. And it is a scary, very isolated place to live.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
New Building Nasty Goings On
April 20, 2019When I moved in here three months ago, I had one night only of peace and quiet. Then all heck broke loose. The first floors apartments have terraces sidewalk level and after the one! office personnel leaves vagrants, relatives and such jumpy over the terrace fence as quickly as they can apparently friends with the tenants in those particular apartments. I could not beleive it! There are also high school students who park in the driveway and park in tenants spots, smoking weed and injecting gosh ...knows what. I am locked into a leave that I will break. It is truly scary and my wife of thirty years refuses to live at Owego Gardens after seeing such crap. SCARY!Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
I wish i knw about reviews
January 12, 2019I didn't know these reviews existed until after i signed lease, and moved into owego gardens. exterior look inviting, buy man oh man are their infrastructure problems, plumbing, heating, standing water under kitchen sinks, dishwashers that leak so much moisture coming through to the below apartment ceiling. This, is bad. Not worth the inflated rent. Why do landlords do this to tenants?Property Manager Responded

We moved
July 27, 2018Bedbugs, mice and rats have free reign inside the building, where the garbage room are. Irs disgusting. All the staff of ONE cares about is the rent, and charging exorbitant amounts for light bulbs that need changing, furnace air filters, everything the landlord, home leasing, should be taking care of on their dime. Looks clean, but look again, vermin has infected every inch of this building with a nursing home feel.Review from Apartments.com
We had to move
May 25, 2018The apartments are ok, but the maintenance is horrible. We had a 2 bedroom, and left prior to the lease expiration. Garbage and rodent droppings at the end of each hallways, bugs entering from screens not installed correctly, and an office person who apparently lives there as well, who treated us like we lived in a nursing home. Bought a home just a little outside of Owego. Much happier now. Renter beware. Remember as well, the rents are increased yearly.Review from Apartments.com
Smoke and Mirrors
May 10, 2018When a NYS landlord chooses to under-staff, tenants are obviously within their rights to address any injuries in court. Tenants at Owego Gardens are paying for a safe, smoke free, snow free, rodent and bug free apartment[s]. That is not happening.Review from Apartments.com
Lots promised little delivered
April 8, 2018The negative reviews are all specific and well written. And every negative review is based on an underlying issue: an incompetent staff of a whopping 2, with 1 part time maintenance person who must travel 22 miles to get to the gardens. Home Leasing, had built the stricture and moved on, another absentee landlord leaving day to day office and maintenance operations to a skeleton crew. this building will fall into disrepair quickly, people will continue to exit, 8 have said goodbye since January ...2018, leaving with negative recommendations for thse who are thinking of renting here. Owego Gardens is only a great value if you are on social services. paying market rate prices here is throwing you money away. with 3 percent rental increases per year, pricey comes to mind. services for tenants? not so many. its about as good as its ever going to get at OG, and that is sad.Property Manager Responded

the mission statement seems odd
March 25, 2018'building better lives in our community' it suggests in the qet floor hallway. when one cannot get to their cars because of the ice packed sidewalks, then not easily drive out of the lot for fear of getting stuck, when a staff of two mind you is accessible only 3 days a week, and there is no on site maintenance staff, when the atmosphere in the building is that of a nursing home facility, i would suggest that is not 'building better lives'. the mission statement got lost, indeed forgotten, as ...soon as the building became habitable. seems to be a shell now, housing folks that cannot drive, because their cars ar stuck, cannot grocery shop because there are no grocery stores within walking distance, and cannot exercise and remain healthy as the doctor ordered, because there is no 'fitness facility' as advertised. its an apartment building, nothing more, with some paying monstrous amounts of rent, others paying virtually nothing. how do these specifics help 'build better lives'? to add insult to injury, first responders cannot even get in to treat those whom have called for medical assistance, because they aren't allowed unfettered access. they must wait for the village constabulary to let them in. oh my God.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
Not adequate for seniors
March 20, 2018Home leasing is doing a terrible disservice to its tenants at Owego Gardens. Many are ill and disabled. Others are told, to paraphrase 'stay inside during the winter months so you dont fall'. That is akin to nursing home protocol. My goodness, this is an apartment building, not assisted care living. Many feel intimidated by the weather and remain inside their apartments because there is no on site maintenance to shovel the sidewalks, put some salt down regularly, and plow the driveway. Because ...snow and ice removal isnt taken care of daily, tenants are left to fend for themselves and forage for food and medical care. the basics are beyond reach because of the terrible location that was chosen for this 62 apartment dwelling. This is the perfect example of an absentee landlord who builds a structure, then leaves the area and waits for the rent checks to pour in.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com

The basics don't exist
February 25, 2018There is no on site maintenance. no maintenence personnel here 24/7. The nearest maintenance person on staff, staff is one (1) btw, lives 44 miles away. This has resulted in water leaks that have gone from minor inconveniences to major emergencies. Having someone here 24/7 to clear the sidewalks, driveways and throw down some salt, so those of us who find it difficult to get around feel a little traction under our feet is apparently not part of maintenance job. No security cams: this is a real ...issue. Tenants windshields wipers have been pulled off of cars, the parking lot has become a well know area for drug use by non residents As well, students park in the lot and consume alcoholic beverages, many are not 21 years of age. Many relieve themselves on the grounds. My point is this. What is considered mandatory for a large apartment complex doesn't exist here. its not 'cost effective. And the kicker? Tenants are allowed to store their handguns and long guns in their apartments, with a valid firearms permit. In today's climate, with tragedy's occurring on a regular basis all around the country, knowing tenants have firearms and ammunition in their residences should scare the heck out of the staff, the village, and Town of Owego. Its scares the heck out of me! OMG.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
