Poverty-liviing at its worse
August 8, 2024The pool has not been filled in the six years I've had to live here (I am too poor to move, so stuck here). My AC has broken down every summer. Right now we are running two window units (that friends and family purchased for us) just to keep the bedrooms livable. It takes a long time to get any maintenance done, so I rarely try to get some done. There is no phone number for the office or maintenance, so tenants are forced to deal with any emergencies themselves or given the off-chance they find ...someone who works here (the office manager does not have regular hours). The laundry facility is so bad I rarely use it. Most of the washers and dryers were broke the last time I was in there (it is not air conditioned and there' nowhere to sit, so unless you hover, you have to leave your clothes there and hope someone doesn't take them out. I haven't complained about the fact that my garbage disposal died two years ago, there is a direct draining off the kitchen sink left side onto the floor (so I have to avoid putting water in it without getting it on the floor), the automatic dishwasher never worked, the stove (they replaced the gas range with electric a year ago so we'd have to pay for it) has only one working burner, there is a leak from the ceiling above the toilet that was explained once as "the neighbor's kid flushed a toy and the plumber's clearing it," there is black mold around the tub, and there's a mice infestation. And twice (once two weeks ago Monday and once this week) I caught the "manager" in her office and told her the toilet is running constantly (so when the water bill increases, they were warned and should not charge us). Oh, and I didn't mention that the heat lamp in the bathroom has always been out (that's a minor inconvenience, but "buy a bulb" has been on my shopping list as long as I've lived here). My rent has increased $25 this year and $100 last year (with notification that it was only going up $50 last year). Gas and water are paid, so that's good. The Addison Apartments: 1 out o 5 stars, would not recommend.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
