Terrible
September 27, 2023This is the worst possible place to live. I lived here this past year and it was filled with nothing but bad experiences. The day I was supposed to move in I got an email at 4:00 am saying my move in was pushed back a week, this wasn’t a major inconvenience for myself but I did have a roommate already in Lubbock after driving all the way from Dallas the previous day. He showed up at the avenue asking for a chance to possibly move in and the told him he could but everything they were fixing would ...be as is. When the office worker came back to check the apartment he told my roommate he wouldn’t be able to move in because in his words we, “couldn’t legally live there.” How can an apartment be in such terrible condition and then not be able to give us a heads up more than 8 hours before our move in time. When we were able to finally move in a week later we had to deep clean everything, greasy cabinets, wire clippings and nails on the floor and toilets covered in crap. The worst part however, was the floor in my bedroom had holes torn in it and made the entire apartment smell like wet dog, they promised to replace it in a week but in the meantime they would get a carpet cleaner to come and clean it. After a week had passed and multiple complaints I decided to just bite the bullet and rent a carpet cleaner, I spent several days using the cleaner I was only picking up black sludge and decided to just take my loss and quit, they finally replaced the carpet after a month and a half! This was only a sliver of the terrible time, my car was broken into twice, I witnessed the mail room get broken into and the front office tried to deny it until we told them we had seen it happen personally, the sink was barely running when we got there, the dish washer didn’t work and they had to replace the entire machine, the club house was closed the entire second half of my lease so we weren’t able to use the included facilities. Finally, once I moved out I was a day early, but I had my roommate turn in my key with the process going smoothly, I thought, they are trying to charge me $250 for moving out late, they accused me of bing in the apartment 6 hours after the required move out time. I would rather drink the black sludge I pulled from my carpets than live here again. Don’t make the same mistake of living here that I did!!!!Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
Moving Out?
September 18, 2019I lived at The Ave for two years. I had nothing but a pleasant experience until my lease was nearing its end. It seems like they stopped caring. I had a billing issue with Suddenlink and when I reached out to the office, after being assured they’d take care of the bill since I was incorrectly billed, I was ignored and left to foot the bill. The property manager and bookkeeper failed to get back to me after several phone calls, emails, and visits to the office. They also tried to charge me for ...damage that was noted upon move-in. They did reverse the initial charge, but tried to sneak it back into my final bill after move-out. Luckily, they removed the charge once it was questioned. Get ready for unreasonable cleaning and “damage” fees upon move-out, too! Staff is awesome and was always more than friendly, but management could be better about customer service.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
Worst apartment I've ever lived in, DONT BE FOOLED
September 27, 2017Do not be fooled by the avenue apartment complex. This is the absolute worst apartment I have lived in by far. When I moved in, the floored were filthy and covered in wax, paint, and dirt. The carpets were also caked with dirt and dust. Not to mention the EXTREMELY thin walls and constant noise you hear from your neighbors. The Avenue is not worth your money. I found the workers in the office rude and unacomodating. They will nickle and dime you for everything, including damage caused by previous ...tenants. Do not lease from here.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
Incompetent staff
September 15, 2017I have had a horrible experience so far. I signed a contract with them and ended up leaving Lubbock so I have been trying to sublease. I have someone who is trying to sublease from me btw. They have sent the wrong sublet contract price wise, so then I asked for them to correct it. Then they correct the price and the program that has you sign it directed me to sign in the incorrect places. Was I notified about this?! No. I thought that I had signed correctly and it was filed away. I send NUMEROUS ...emails asking about the contract and I do not receive one email back about it. So I call and ask about it since I hadn't heard back and they say I have to sign it in the correct places. So they send ANOTHER contract for me to sign where the program has me sign in the correct places. Mind you this is supposed to go to the person trying to sublease after this. So I contact the girl wanting to sublease and she hasn't received the email. I call the Avenue for what seems like the millionth time and they say they will send it to her after the manager approves of the signatures. Then the manager says to the girl that she has to fill out an application and do a security deposit before she's allowed to sign the sublease agreement. (But somehow the staff had already overlooked that numerous times and had sent her the document to sign the sublease contract). Not to mention that the manager tells this girl trying to sublease the wrong amount for the security deposit (it's supposed to be 1 months worth of rent.) So now the manager has implied that the monthly rate is $60 less than it's supposed to be. I am beyond irritated that this has taken a month and the communication has been horrible on their part. Don't sign with them if you want somebody that is competent handling your money and creating legally binding contracts for you.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
The SL-Ave
March 3, 2017Today I logged onto the Ave website to pay my rent and I see two fees: 1) New Key & 2) Late Rent. First, I only asked for a mailbox key because the one provided did not work. Why should I pay $25 for their mistake? Secondly, I pay my rent each month on the 5th because of my pay cycle. The front desk knows this. I stipulated this upon my move-in. Nope -- they have basically raised my rent each month and because of this clause in the contract they claim it can't be changed. I stood in the clubhouse ...lobby today complaining about these facts when another tenant comes in complaining that they've been egged THREE TIMES! They know who is vandalizing their property. Yet, the management will just "enter your complaint in the system." To that end, this management is completely programmed by their corporate system that they have zero compassion for the human experience at the Avenue. In fact, the top manager walked away from me in the middle of my plea for some flexibility on the rent date. He claims they treat everyone the same. He even eluded the possible legal action over this 25$ fee. This property lures you in with 'free' tacos and coffee. In reality, they're going to make you pay for that in some way. I don't even want to mention that I don't have hot water, my hallway smells like urine and I can hear conversations through my wall floor and ceiling. This is a party complex sometimes. But, anyone that claims to be an adult or expects humane interaction should not live here.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
Only live here if you don't mind being robbed upon move out!
September 6, 2016My son subleased an apartment from his friend for the last 2 months of the lease. So in total, my son was there from June to the end of July. I just got a bill for more than a months rent to cover "damages" including command strip damages(6 of them at $25 each)! Are you kidding me The idea behind command strips is they don't do damage to the walls. But according to Victoria who is supposed to be the account manager, command strips do leave damages sometimes. $125 worth Really So many fraudulent ...charges, but they know that they can steal college kids' money. Shameful to say the least. Do NOT rent at the Avenue unless you are okay with paying for fraudulent charges. The management is inept and wouldn't know what the word "ethical" means to save their lives. Sad!!Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
NEVER RENT HERE!!! WARNING: UNREASONABLE CONTRACT with NO protection and NO way out!
July 13, 2016Nice place to live but the contract is ridiculously binding and unfair. It is not worth the amenities. BEWARE!! They will move random people into any vacant rooms with NO CONSENT from existing roommates, male or female! They will NOT help you if you get transferred, graduate, or otherwise need to move.Review from Apartments.com
The Avenue
July 28, 2015The Avenue is a beautiful student getaway from the tumultuous stress endured from college. It has the perfect environment to relax in the state of the art clubhouse, swimming pool, sand volleyball court, tennis court, basketball court, game room, tanning beds, and the gym. The spacious environment and rooms allows you to grow and feel comfortable. The biggest difference between the Avenue and other apartment complex' is that the Avenue does not have any rodent or bug problems. The Avenue has ...great management/ maintaince which also live at the Avenue incase you have a late night or weekend emergency. I have spent majority of my life being a nomad and moving from one apartment to another and I can definitely say the Avenue is the best I've lived at.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
Management is frustrating
July 20, 2015The Avenue is a solid apartment to live at because of it being recently built over the last 2 years. Wood floors and new appliances make it fashionable make it a more luxurious option for student housing at a reasonable price. About a 7 minute drive from Texas Tech campus, but the bus shuttle takes forever at times. However, management is poor and very frustrating at times. Multiple times I found out about bills I owed at a later date then the date they were due, incurring late fees in the ...process. Even if you keep up with your monthly rent, you never know when another bill might pop up out of nowhere. That's really the only complaint though. Pretty decent spot the live at.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
