Things to consider before you sign a lease!
April 24, 2018Be sure to rent a 3rd floor apartment. 1st and 2nd floor apartments must listen to footsteps late into the night and again starting as early as 4:30 A.M. Your own vibrating washer will keep your attention while you do laundry, and you will also hear anyone above you doing laundry. You can't cook anything in the apartments because the fan above the stove works as poorly as the fan in the bathroom. The entire apartment stinks if you cook.Whoever installed the new bath tub did something wrong ...because it will creek every time you put a foot down or move. The bedrooms only have one window which is OK in the summer and fall, but extremely dark during the rainy winter and spring. The same is true about the living room. People smoke cigarettes on the patios and decks, so if you don't like second hand smoke, you will have to keep your windows closed during the heat of the day and the evening. There are no ceiling fans or air conditioning units and you'll want those. They don't trim and cut back the ugly shrubs on the waterfront, so even if you can see the lake, once the shrubs green up, you'll lose a big chunk of your view. When major things happen, they don't email you a warning; for example two weeks ago, someone knocked down our mail boxes. It looked like a slum, but the company didn't even clean up the mess. I called on Wednesday, 3 days after returning from a trip to be told, "The contractor isn't putting the new boxes up until next Tuesday." I asked why they didn't at least clean up the unsightly mess. There was no answer to that question. Later that day, the new boxes were put in; however, new keys would not be issued until the following Monday. They never emailed us to say, "Sorry for the inconvenience, but your mail will be held at the post office. In fact, no email was sent out until 3:00 PM on Monday, April 22nd. I finally got my mail on April 22nd, some had a post date of April 12th. Many, not all, people in the office are not nice. It seems they've been schooled in customer inconvenience not service. Utilities are high. In the 3 story(not townhouse)buildings your water bill is based on the entire building's usage. In all, my utility bill, is at least $173.00 additional dollars per month, 100 is water and sewer. The water is undrinkable, so if you're smart, you won't drink it. Beautiful surroundings but not worth the money
July 21, 2017I chose this place because of the location and the trees. However, we haven't been able to use the pool because it's dirty! The Jacuzzi hasn't been in working order when we've attempted to use it. There is only one garbage bin and people throw their garbage everywhere. Obviously not enough garbage containers and yet we are being charged as if they are going house to house to empty garbage. The rates fluctuate every month and I'm starting to think that it's because of the garbage and also water ...use. We don't use that much water. We pay more for this apartment now than we did for the house. I'm moving out as soon as possible. Don't even get me started on the dog noise and the doggy messes. You pay extra for everything, parking, garbage, late fees, inconvenient access to personnel who are nice when you are signing up but then jekyl and hyde once you're in. I can't wait to get out! Surprise Lake Village
August 23, 2015Nice place to live. Older buildings, but very well maintained. Some units have been upgraded, but not all of them. Lake view apartments are few, but worth the extra to get one. Exercise room is small, but has the equipment needed. Indoor outdoor pool is nice. Biggest issue is parking, If you can afford it rent a covered spot. lake view, convenient to everything
August 10, 2015Lovely staff, pastoral environment, yet a 10-minute walk from a grocery store, a library, a dentist's and doctor's office, and a storage facility. Very pet friendly, responsive maintenance personnel, and a fireplace, washer and dryer in every unit. Three floors, and no elevators, something to keep in mind, and also some units are "townhomes," two stories with no one above or below you. A gym with big windows overlooking the lake is available 24/7, and a movie theater is available when staff are ...on site, six days a week. Growing family approved
August 9, 2015I'll admit that while this is the first apartment I've ever lived in, I more than approve. I moved into this apartment when my husband and I were dating. 2 bedrooms, 1000sq ft... it was perfect. Super roomy, HUGE closets and super open with room to grow. And we did. By two more. We went from having an art room/studio to a little girl's bedroom. I couldn't have picked a better residence to live in. There are parks on the grounds that are always SUPER clean and well maintained, a cute little ...patio area around the pool with a barbecue and everything. They tend to be very quick and efficient with response to any maintenance issues. They are extremely helpful and awesome. And they actually do give you rent money if you refer people (I know, because I've got it twice). It's easy to want to refer people when I've only ever heard complaints about apartments, but I don't really have any about this place. Surprise lake village
July 21, 2015These apartments are pretty nice, they're on a beautiful lake that you can actually swim in! And I do, pretty often actually. Only con is the dock is currently undergoing construction and repairs so you can't go on it, which sucks and according to the tenants that have lived here awhile it doesn't appear to be getting fixed any time soon, so boo. But the apartments themselves are Nice! I'll wood floors in the renovated one I rented and the neighbors are freindly and way quieter than the ...apartments I've lived in prior, and the staff is super nice. Mixed feelings
July 20, 2015The location is great, right on Surprise Lake which is beautiful and is very close to stores and restaurants. The apartment itself is nice, newly renovated. However, the apartment was not ready when we moved in and it took two weeks after we moved in and several reminders before the kitchen cabinets were finally installed. The closet doors were still being painted and put in as we were moving our stuff in (2 days after our lease started). The staff is very friendly and willing to help, but it ...isn't always in the most timely manner. This is long but worth your read
July 23, 2014This is long but it's worth your read. SLV used to be owned by Equity Residential, and they did a really good job. When Bridge took over in 2012 everything went downhill, FAST! Right before Bridge took over in Oct 2012 we transferred from a 2Bdrm2Bath to their 3Bdrm2.5Bath - the move was fine, however, we weren't charged utilities for about 5 months! We submitted everything properly but nobody could tell which way was up and, although, we were using our utilities, we weren't charged for months. ...The problem fixed itself when they changed the utility company. After Bridge took over, they raised our rent $104 when we renewed our lease - which we only renewed for 6 months because we wanted to get out of there ASAP but were financially unable to do so. When our 6 month lease was almost up we got a notice saying another renewal would include a $105 increase on our new lease. My point is they consistently raised our rent with each renewal and the only explanation we got was it was in sync with an increasing market value. Other apartments got increases because they were remodeled or had a lake-view. Our apartment hadn't received any upgrades, even appliances, and didn't have a lake-view. It's now been 3 months since we moved out and I got a call today from the Assistant Manager stating that we had an outstanding balance that was going to be sent to collections if we didn't pay up. First off, we paid everything in full within a week of our move-out date (when they calculated the fees). We made sure everything was current and there were no outstanding balances due. And even if we had an outstanding balance, why haven't you called or sent me a bill since I moved out 3 months ago? Secondly, their computer system for tracking the rent and services for 338 apartments has never worked properly and I knew there was either a computer or operator error. But the AM was so insistent we owed this outstanding balance that I HAD TO PROVIDE MY PERSONAL RECORDS TO SHOW THEM WHERE THEIR MISTAKE WAS. And lastly, even though I provided all evidence that I owed them no money, there was no professional apology for wasting my time. There was no interest in the internal problem that led them to believe I had an outstanding balance. Customer DIS-service! In my opinion, SLV is understaffed for an apartment community of 338 units. If they had more people on their leasing staff they would be able to afford the time to do the diligence and make sure the accounts are handled professionally. Instead they compromise customer service, candor and professionalism while demanding payment when, in reality, customers are being double-billed, not billed at all or something in between. I will NEVER waste my time with this property again and I will not endorse any recommendation for anyone to become a resident at SLV. Until they can own up to their shortcomings, be straight with people and provide quality and professional customer service, they deserve 2 stars or even less!Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
