Kickstarted by a lone location in New York's lower east side, the Coyote Ugly chain has since gone global, thanks in part to a little film by the same name and an army of dudes that watch CMT and subscribe to Maxim. If you happen to be one of them, are tired of sitting around your apartment watching the DVD on repeat and are game for some foot-stomping, cleavage-heaving good times, then the C.U. is for you. Many a female theater major has found a home at the Coyote, where the barmaids dance, serve and sing from atop the bar itself. The dress code abides by a strict 'less is more' aesthetic (which is, of course, part of the appeal), although the clientele is usually a pleasant mix of men and women, making it a fun stop on the pub crawl trail for couples. And while the drinks aren't exactly cheap, the entertainment value is an added bonus that makes coughing up a little more for that margarita worthwhile. So get up off the couch, throw on your best pair of cowboy boots and head on down to the bar that puts a new spin (and twist, and twirl) on the term 'ugly'.
