A life without culture is hardly a life at all, so when it comes time for Birmingham apartment-ites to figure out what to do with a lazy weekend off, there are a number of different opportunities to explore the cultural side of the city. For fans of the artistic world, however, the best spot in town to take in the best paintings, sculptures and other works of art is the Birmingham Museum of Art. Featuring a collection of over seventeen thousand pieces, and traveling exhibitions that bring in even more, you'll never be without something to intrigue and delight you, whether you're a fan of classic paintings, modern video instalations, or anything in between. Among their collection they have a number of different exhibitions of art, ranging from the earliest days of the classics to modern day beauties. Included in this collection is a nice collection of Pre-Columbian Art, featuring works from Meso-America, the Northern Andes and Central America, including Aztec sculpture, Incan mummy masks, Peruvian textiles, and jewelry of South African, among numerous other items. Also on display is a wide array of African Art, including works from the twelfth century to the current, and includes masks, sculpture, metal arts, and ritual objects. Of course, they also have plenty of paintings on display, including American works from the eighteenth through mid-twentieth centuries, European art from Renaissance and Baroque Periods, as well as the art of Asia and the Native Americans. Current art is also well represented, with a fine collection of contemporary art, including installation art, video, photography, as well as painting and sculpture from artists from the nineteen sixties to present. In addition to the fine collection on display, traveling exhibitions always through something new into the adventure, making for a new experience with almost every visit. Its important for the health of a person's soul that they take in the artistic world as much as possible, so a trip to the Birmingham Museum of Art can be seen as exercise for the spirit of any Birmingham apartment-ite, and they'll have plenty of room to exercise with this fine, extensive collection of works, featuring some of the best works to be found in town.
