A Fish House on a corner location overlooking the historic Charleston market is where you'll find Hank's Seafood Restaurant, the home of fresh, delicious seafood and friendly service. Charleston apartment-ites love Hank's because of the lovely atmosphere that reflects classic style of an old-fashioned restaurant with new ways of preparing fish. Hank's has a traditional saloon style bar area, as well as a fabulous exhibition raw bar, the focal point of the restaurant. The turn of the century warehouse where Hank's sits makes you feel that you are reliving history with your meal. The building itself is designated as a national historic landmark. Hand-blown leaded glass windows, antique tiling on the pine plank floors and shiny zinc and copper on the raw bar accentuate the antique nature of the space. The extensive menu takes a bit of time to decide upon your meal, unless you go in planning what you'll have to eat. You may choose between hot and cool appetizers, and there are several of each. The sesame crusted rare tuna with Asian red chili slaw is divine from the cold side. And the Raw Bar features Gulf oysters and an oyster sampler, crab fingers, jumbo shrimp and peel and eat shrimp, all served with a selection of tasty sauces. Crab cakes, fried oysters and crispy shrimp with calamari are the "hot stuff" that you might not usually make in your Charleston apartment. If you skip the appetizer, you can jump to Charleston She crab soup or soup of the day, or a crispy tossed salad, Belgian endive salad or spinach salad. Chef Frank McMahon has several specialty entrees that are worth tasting. The grilled swordfish is slow simmered with white beans, sundried tomatoes, capers, fine herbs with arugula in an extra virgin olive oil. Rare seared tuna, grilled salmon, grilled swordfish and pan seared sea scallops are prepared here as specialties as well. And then you may also order a seared beef tenderloin or buttermilk fried chicken. Something for everyone. The key lime pie and creamy peanut butter pie finish off the meal. Hank's is open every night of the week at 5:00 pm, and open until 10:30 on weeknights and 11:30 on Friday and Saturday. Charleson apartment-ites can eat here for under $30 each.
