As most apartment residents in Dallas know, Mexican restaurants are a dime a dozen in the city, so where do you go if you want to escape from the usual casual quick Tex-Mex fair, and instead indulge in something a bit higher scale. Javier's Gourmet Mexican Restaurant is one of the greatest places in town for you to get unique, upscale Mexican food in a cool, modern environment. It's a great destination for those classy folks who are tired of quick tacos and burritos. Javier's is not your typical Mexican restaurant. Instead of the bright colors and tropical themes, they like to keep it low key, while still reminding you of its Mexican heritage. Its modern furniture and plush leather sofas fit right in with the colorful stained-glass windows and palm trees scattered about, and the beautiful, vibrant Mexican painting that line the walls offer no contrast to the still lifes. It's all about making the customer comfortable, while also keeping the Mexican heritage alive and well in the decor, and Javier does a great job balances this, without making it seem too pretentious, or too unprofessional. Decor can only take you so far, and in the end it all comes down to how good your food is. Javier's is keeps the patrons coming back with their unique takes on traditional Mexican dishes, as well as the variety of their selection. They serve nachos, but the nachos are sure to be served with only the finest grilled chicken breast, and it's a common theme throughout the menu to spice up the traditional dish with something fresh. The real draw here in terms of food, though, is the more original items. If you're a veal fan, make sure to try their Escalope Cordon Azul, veal stuffed with the finest imported ham and cheese, covered with a demi-glace and lemon. If seafood is more your thing, they have a great selection, including Shrimp Brochette Cozumel, a Shrimp Brochette served in a combination of Barbecue, Lemon and Almond Sauce, and Red Snapper Marinero, with fresh gulf snapper covered in flour and sauteed in butter, mushrooms and lemon. No matter what your salivating for when you walk in the door, they'll have it, and in a flavor that is distinctly Javier's. If you want to relax after the meal with a drink, and maybe even a smoke, make sure to try out their cigar lounge. Only the finest cigars, in combination of one of the finest wine lists in town, make for one of the most enjoyable ways to lounge around after a delicious meal. They have a wide selection of wines available, including whites, reds, blushes and champagnes from all over the world. If brandy or cognac is more your speed, they have plenty of selection, with eleven different varietels of cognacs to choose from. When it comes to Mexican food, it's sometimes hard to escape the usual hustle and bustle of the quick Tex-Mex huts, so Javier's is a nice escape from the typical taco world. Dallas apartment owners need look no further for delicious Mexican food with class and style to spare.
