This prestigious private University in the heart of San Antonio was founded in 1852 by a group of Catholic priests and nuns called the Marianists. They were responding to the call of their superiors to build a University that would educate a population that they saw as backwards and ignorant. Today, the University is known throughout the Southwest for its service to San Antonio and the rest of the Southwest, for it's academic programs, and the service mindedness of it's faculty, administration, staff and students. Today, the school serves thousands of undergraduate and post graduate students from the San Antonio area. If you decide to live on campus, St Mary's has a number of halls to choose from. One of the advantages of living on campus is that you are only a short distance from the Riverwalk, The Alamo, The San Antonio Zoo, and many other attractions.
