Texas Christian University, or TCU as it is more commonly known, is a small private university located in the community of Forth Worth, Texas. Rich with nightlife, parks, and a wide variety of apartments to choose from near the University, Ft. Worth is a great spot for Apartment-ite's looking to further their knowledge. The University was first founded in 1873 as a co-ed university by brothers Addison and Randolph Clark, and their father Joseph. A family of preachers and teachers, the Clark's were part of the 19th century Campbellite movement whose major goal was to promote education. The Campbellites were the spiritual ancestors of the modern day Disciples of Christ of which the modern University is affiliated. Being admitted to TCU is heavily weighted on your SAT score, the quality of your letter of intent, and your GPA. A 1080 to a 1250 SAT score might be sufficient to get you in. TCU tends to be selective, so a student with just a 2.0 GPA might have some trouble being accepted. Your chances of getting your foot in the door significantly improve if you apply with a 3.0 GPA or higher. TCU also requires a written essay to evaluate your application. From the written essay, the admissions department will determine what they think your likelihood of success at their University will be. TCU has 98 undergraduate and 16 graduate fields of study. Some of the subjects of study include Nursing, Anthropology, Business, and Mathematics. With an average class size of 27, students get plenty of needed scholastic attention! About 6,800 students attend undergraduate classes, while another 1,200 attend the graduate courses. Like any other private university, tuition at TCU is up there. For the 2008-2009 school year, the tuition per semester is $13,450. Tack on the average of $880 a year for books, $5,100 for on-campus residence, and $3,598 for a University dining plan and the cost goes up and up and up. The annual cost estimate is around $36,526. Students living off-campus in one of the many wonderful apartment communities in the Ft. Worth area can find ways to save a little on cost by sharing apartments with roommates and making their own meals in the comfort of an apartment's full kitchen. If a student prefers living on campus though, they will have a choice of halls that are named based on different hall themes. Faith and Spirituality is a residence hall where the students are introduced to the Christian faith through speakers, the Bible, missions, and outreach. The Green House is a residence hall that seeks to teach students the values of conservation through the 'Lights Out' program. Other examples of Residence Halls on campus are Health and Wellness, Honors House, Social Justice, Language and International House, and Leadership and Strength House. These are all examples of a university that promotes social change from the ground up. A graduate student who wishes to live in the on-campus apartments will find choices of $1,200 dollars a month for a 1 bedroom apartment. An additional cost of 600 dollars per resident will be added. It's MUCH cheaper to find an apartment off campus in one of the many surrounding amenity-rich apartment communities. The university takes a lot of pride in their athletics department. The Horned Frogs football team has been ranked in the nations top 25 at some point in the season for 6 of the last 10 years. It is customary for fans to wear purple boxers to the games, hoping that it will bring good luck and the team will win. TCU is rich with spirit and a great place for any Apartment-ite or student to better their academic profile in the city of Ft. Worth!
