Explore Miami Beach
Possibly one of the most unique things you can take a look at outside an an adventure out of your Miami apartment is the fantastically-sounding World Erotic Art Museum. Located on the southern area of Miami Beach, this museum isn't entirely as lewd as it sounds. Yes, there are some surreal paintings relating to bestiality, and a few odd bawdy romps depicted in sculpture here and there, but there are also classically-painted nude portraits as well. In addition, there are a surprisingly large collection of ancient sexual artifacts organised by country, ranging across the Continents. Some are pieces of functional art depicting sexual acts, such as stationery and furniture, but there are books, toys and scrolls also. As the museum is relatively small, the organisation feels a little cramped, so there is a lot to take in all at once. Once you get past the initial surrealism of being in this type of unconventional museum, curiosity does take over. Ms Naomi, the museum's owner, is frequently in presence, and has amassed over 4,000 pieces in just 15 years. The exhibits range in style from tastefully mild to graphically explicit, so it's not for the faint-of-heart. But Miami apartment residents going into a museum specifically dedicated to erotic art would need to check their prudence at the door to fully appreciate what's on offer. The museum's aim is not entirely to shock, but to educate on a rather taboo subject, so you're guaranteed to leave there with some interesting new perspectives on the world's different sexual cultures. Miami apartments can be boring, so spice it up a little!
