Contemporary art is very popular in Miami, and that makes residents of Miami Art Museum apartments happy. While the Miami Art Museum (MAM) is not strictly contemporary art, it was a successor to the Center for Fine Arts which has been an attraction to many Miami apartment dwellers since 1984. The building itself is gorgeous, and is a mid-sized structure that is appropriate for people of all ages who live in Miami Art Museum apartments. The focus of the art in the museum is on paintings, drawings and sculpture from the 20th and 21st centuries, with the pieces primarily from the western hemisphere. While the museum started out as only a space for exhibitions, a permanent anthology of works, called the "Dream Collection" was begun at the initiation of the new name and building in 1996. It has grown to include the art of many prominent artists. Traveling exhibitions are still quite popular and reflect much from local artists. Adult residents of Miami Art Museum apartments will pay $8 for admission, while seniors pay $4 and children under 12 and members get in free. MAM is open Tuesday - Friday from 10 am to 5 pm with a Thursday night viewing of 5 pm to 8:30 pm and Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5 pm. The only days of the year that the MAM is closed are Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. Located close to people who live in downtown Miami apartments, the museum has plans to be moved to Bicentennial Park with the Miami Science Museum sometime in 2012.
