Explore Miami
A full day of adventure, maybe two, can be found by residents of Miami apartments at the Miami Science Museum. Included on the grounds are the Space-Transit Planetarium, the Weintraub Observatory and a Wildlife Center. The current location of the museum is in the historic Vizcaya complex, the beautiful former winter villa of agricultural industrialist James Deering, a prominent figure in Miami history. The architecture and beauty of these buildings on the shoreline is enough to draw any Miami Science Museum apartment dweller. Many of the exhibits in the museum gallery are there on a non-permanent basis and usually stay at the museum for up to six months. The planetarium is made for star gazing Miami apartment dwellers and houses a 65 foot diameter domed projection screen. The Weintraub Observatory offers two powerful telescopes through which you can view the intricacies of the planets as well as galaxies, nebulas and double stars. The Wildlife Center is a facility dedicated to the ecological research, rehabilitation, and release of injured birds of prey. The center also hosts annual Snake Day and Lizard Day and teaches participants about what to do if an injured bird is found in your Miami Science Museum apartment complex grounds. A discount on admission is offered to people who live in Dade County apartments and it is $15.30 for adults and $11.05 for kids aged 3-12. The cost includes everything - gallery viewing, planetarium shows and wildlife center admission. Hours are 10 am to 6 pm, Monday through Friday, every day of the year except for Christmas. One note here is that the Museum will relocate in 2012 to Bicentennial Park in downtown Miami along with the Miami Art Museum to further utilize the currently underused park. Architectural drawings are incredible and it should be just as splendid of a place for residents of Miami Science Museum apartments to visit as it is now.
