For McHenry Museum apartment dwellers, the history of the area means more than just another museum. This very well put together local attraction, the McHenry Museum, is a beautiful reflection of the architecture of the time for residents of Modesto apartments. The building itself was originally the city library, and given to the city of Modesto in 1912. It was converted into the current museum on July 4, 1972. Within the restored structure is an old fashioned dentist office, a general store and a blacksmith shop featuring wood and square nails. People from McHenry Museum apartments wouldn't have a complete tour without seeing gold mining equipment, cattle brands and original fire fighting equipment. The traveling exhibits are interesting to view as well, with the featured topic changing every other month. Former traveling exhibits include tributes to California National Parks, pioneer families, and popular early settler items such as quilts, fans, silver and dolls.
