The building itself was originally the city library, and given to the city of Modesto in 1912. It was converted into the current museum on July 4, 1972. Within the restored structure is an old fashioned dentist office, a general store and a blacksmith shop featuring wood and square nails. The traveling exhibits are interesting to view as well, with the featured topic changing every other month.
