The Audubon Zoo is a must-see for New Orleans apartment-ites, if just to get out for the day and enjoy a good walk amongst the animals. As one of the nation's top-ranked zoos, you'll find an amazing selection of mammals, reptiles and birds from around the globe, lush natural habitats, beautiful gardens, the mystical Louisiana swamp and exciting animal encounters. The animal collection ranges from the huge Komodo dragons to fascinating pale alligators to prowling white tigers. The sea lion exhibit has been at the zoo since its opening in 1928, and is one of the favorites for visitors of all ages. It is a very popular exhibit, with Greek architecture and happy seals. Don't miss the Louisiana Swamp and the World of Primates, two diverse worlds in one convenient location. And while it's great to look at animals, but how about doing something for yourself? Adventurous types can scale the Rock Climbing Wall, which offers a view of the zoo from above the trees for a low $5 fee. Or for the more mellow zoo-goers, the Gottesman Endangered Species Carousel is a fun ride of elephants, horses, giraffes and other vanishing species. Give those tired feet a rest by hopping aboard a sitting tour of the zoo on the Swamp Train, or go high-tech in the Safari Simulator Ride. When you've had your fill of the zoo attractions, fill up yourself at the new Zoofari Cafe, where you'll find fun, fast and healthy fixin's. The Flamingo Café, located near the front entrance, as well as the Carousel Concession Stand, Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream and Cypress Knee Café are all open during regular Zoo hours and offer freshness and sweetness for the animal fans in your party.
