Northridge Overview

Northridge, is located in the beautiful San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles County. Northridge has a little bit of everything for residents in all demographics. Whether you are looking for a bustling city with a top-notch university, a city with a spacious family center or are into outdoor activities, you will feel right at home in Northridge. Between beautiful weather, a thriving economy and affordable apartments in Northridge, this lovely Los Angeles locale has legitimate mass appeal. Apartments in Northridge provide quick and easy access to all the amenities of Los Angeles, are affordably priced and have much more space than most assume.

What is the history of Northridge?

"Most people are surprised to learn Northridge was originally referred to as ""Zelzah"" by the area's initial settlers back in 1908. The location was subsequently renamed as North Los Angeles in the late 1920s. However, this moniker made it unclear as to whether the area was in Los Angeles or North Hollywood. Fast forward to 1938 and Carl Dentzel, a local civic leader, renamed the area as Northridge Village. As time progressed, the name of the area was gradually shortened to Northridge. NorthridgeÆs roots extend all the way back to the people known as the Tongva, who were followed by Spanish Explorers. In fact, the Northridge area was once sold by Pio Pico, the governor of Mexico, to Eulogio de Celis, who passed it on to his heirs. The area was resold and is now a neighborhood within the city limits of Los Angeles."

How is the weather in Northridge?

Northridge has some of the best weather in all of the United States. While much of the country is covered in snow and saddled by freezing temperatures in the winter months, Northridge's temperatures in January and February are typically between 45 degrees Fahrenheit and 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Northridge usually receives rain one or two days per month, meaning it is a comparably arid city. However, locals are happy to soak up the sun thanks to Northridge's primarily cloud-free skies. An added bonus is the relatively dry air. The lack of humidity makes Northridge living that much more comfortable for those with arthritis and those who dislike being bogged down by sweat resulting from humidity. Though Northridge has the potential to reach the 80s or 90s, these temperatures are not accompanied by an abundance of moisture.

How do I get around town?

Most people who rent apartments in Northridge drive to and from work, local colleges and other attractions. However, public transportation is also available. The LADOT DASH bus service transports locals throughout Northridge and the rest of Los Angeles. Train service is available through the Northridge Metrolink Station. Additional options include riding a bike in the beautiful Northridge weather, walking and taking one of the many local ridesharing services.
