The insects, arachnids and other invertebrates we consider bugs are often considered the scourge of the animal world, but on closer inspection you can get a look into a world that is fascinating and even awe-inspiring, and one place to do just that is the Philadelphia Insectarium. All forms of bugs and critters can be found at this bug heaven, a must for fan of the hard-shelled variety of animal life. The insectarium has the distinct pleasure of being the largest bug museum in the entire United States, with more beetles, spiders and butterflies than you could possibly shake a stick at. Around every corner is another chance to find out more about the fascinating world of the many-legged beasts, and the fascinating lives they live. The museum houses several different species of anthropods from all over the world, including African millipedes, Indian praying mantises, or fascinating species. They have fascinating exhibits, such as the cockroach kitchen, featuring a real kitchen swarming with water bugs and cockroaches, a real working beehive, and an exhibit devoted wholly to aquatic insects. You can also check out your favorite web-slingers in Arachnid Alley, or, if you're brave, you can even hold and pet the insects at the Petting Corner.
