The whole area was rife with amazing warehouses, mills and shops complete with ornate locally made iron work handiwork. Once it was refurbished in the 1970's it's popularity continues to grow among local Richmond apartment dwellers for its great shopping, dining and retail opportunities. While enjoying the limitless possibilities in which to spend their day Richmond apartment residents can enjoy the detailed fountain in the center of the district. Dedicated to "one who loved animals" it is used as a drinking station for the horses of the mounted police and serves as a constant remembrance of the draught horses that once used it. The Bowers Brothers Warehouse, built in 1882 is nearby as well. This great building served as a warehouse for the incoming tobacco and produce products that flourished in the area. It is now a phenomenal part of the areas charm and certain distinction.
