Sacramento, the capital city of California, is home to much recreation and activity and many apartments, but a place to enjoy the serene beauty of the city would be Capitol Park. Trees from around the world surround park benches and lovely statues depicting people important to California's past and future. The lawns and flower gardens, with hundreds of species of trees, shrubs and flowers, make up over 40 acres, probably much larger than the property your Sacramento apartment sits upon! The park is just north of the State Capitol and the California State Capitol Museum. The capital was completed in 1864 in the classical revival style of architecture that imitates the US Capitol in Washington, D.C. The museum itself is within the capitol walls and a beautiful place to visit on your lunch hour or on the way home from work to your Capitol Park apartment one day. Memorials on the park grounds honor with plaques and statues a myriad of soldiers and adventurers. A beautiful statue honors Father Junipero Serra, and recognizes firefighters and peace officers who fell in the line of duty. Veterans of the Vietnam and other US wars are memorialized here, as well as soldiers of the California Mexican American War and the Spanish American War. Just taking a walk through this lovely park is a great break in your day.
