"To eat an oyster is to kiss the sea on the lips," touts Leonard Beck, at the top of the Oceanaire Seafood Room website. While you may have never thought of eating oysters in this context, it is definitely a very visual statement, requiring contemplation! To get the best out of an oyster, one of DC's great seafood restaurant picks would be the Oceanaire. Fashioned as a 1930's ocean liner, the service and the excellent fresh seafood flown in from around the world will have you bathing, or swimming in luxury. From cocktails in the lounge, to the raw oyster bar, to a main course of mega-fresh fish, a dining event at the Oceanaire is an experience worth repeating. The menu is based entirely on market availability, with selections changing by the day - and sometimes by the hour. From Sea Bream to Red Snapper or Mahi Mahi to Ahi tuna, you may select grilled or broiled, sauteed, steamed or even fried. Served with the famous fresh baked sourdough bread, and offered with a wine list as deep as the ocean, diners come to Oceanaire to be spoiled. The ultra-fresh fish means that the fish may have been swimming the previous afternoon, and stored in the ideal refrigerated temperature and seasoned to perfection. Of course, steak and chicken are served for the landlubber, and the sides (grown in soil of the earth) range from Sour Cream and Onion Mashed Potatoes to green beans, corn and Fried Green tomatoes. Dessert lovers are spoiled as well, with Baked Apple Brown Betty, Key lime pie and a favorite, Baked Alaska, served flaming at the table. Oceanaire will take you away from your apartment, for lunch or dinner to a place far away with delicious seafood.
