Suited Our Needs
July 28, 2015My girlfriend and I began renting this Drexel University-affiliated apartment in 2013 in order to save on the college's astronomical housing costs. The building itself is an old house in Powelton Village that got transformed into a duplex and then a multi-apartment unit, and it is the definition of "you get what you pay for." At a fair rent of $885/month (especially split two ways), there's nothing I can really complain about too much. Being in an old house in an urban setting, various insects ...are quite common, cockroaches show up every now and then, and there's even the occasional field mouse. Maintenance can good or bad: sometimes they are very quick when something is needed. Other times, some smaller things get left undone. I must say that the exterminator is very personable and tries his best to extremely helpful, but what he's allowed to do is limited by management. Usually, he's only allowed to lay down sticky traps which accumulate roach bodies and even caught a few highly unfortunate mice that we had to dispose of ourselves (not his fault though). At one point, we had a troublesome yellow jacket problem in our kitchen, but he did find and get rid of the nest just outside our window. Speaking of the windows and walls, I would advise against opening the windows since they are not the least bit well-sealed (especially when you have your own A/C unit installed), and the walls don't hold back much sound in terms of your neighbors on the other side of the duplex. They claim to clean the apartment before move-in, but even after two years, we still have not been able to get our rubber, faux-tile kitchen floor completely clean. In terms of rent, cooking gas and water is included, but electricity and cable/internet are paid for by the tenant. The water temp of the shower is affected by everyone else in the building, so you'll learn to play chicken with it when it instantly changes to boiling hot or freezing cold with slight warning. Also, heat only goes on on a certain date in October and only turns off on a certain date around March, I believe. All in all, these sound like mostly complaints, but as I said, this apartment has suited our needs quite well during college. The property managers are really responsive, understanding, and helpful, and are nowhere near the slum lords that control much of the nearby housing in the area. It's location is ideal (half a block from campus) for such a low rent, and I would honestly recommend it.Leer MásReseña de Apartments.com
