You Get What You Pay For
July 18, 2017Pros: Affordable units in an up and coming neighborhood. On the safer side of Georgia Avenue. Easy walk to metro, Safeway, Petworth and Columbia Heights bars and restaurants. Close to 14th street Target. Cons: The building is old and full of roaches. Property management is run through a shell company, making it extremely difficult to get in touch with a human being about a maintenance request. AVOID LIVING IN THE BASEMENT AT ALL COSTS. I had my ceiling collapse from water, my sink consistently ...back up due to clogged pipes, and did I mention roaches? I've killed over 40 in the last week. This was not a bad place for your first apartment, but you'll grow sick of the maintenance and building issues after a few months.Leer MásReseña de Apartments.com
Fair Price, Don't Expect Professional Management
October 7, 2015I've only been living here since July...so far so good. Relatively quiet, most of the neighbors behave themselves. If you're looking for a nice place to rent in DC at a fair price but aren't high maintenance, then this place could be for you. You need to know a few things though. It's by no means a dump, but this property has been taken over by new management and new ownership. The new ownership is offering upgrades to all apartments (before you jump up and down, read on...) IF you pay like ...twice the amount that non-upgraded apartments have. That being said, if you choose to deal with the building grade apartments so you don't have to pay an ASTRONOMICAL amount, you'll have to deal with chipping paint, cracked ceiling, cracked walls and chipping bathroom tiles that maintenance WILL NOT FIX. Yep, you read that right. If you live in a non-upgraded unit, you just kind of have to deal with it AS IS. They will not fix cosmetic problems which is ABSURD. So if that's all still ok, then here's the good part about the building- Laundry facilities that are never jam packed (you can use your card, so no annoying trips for change), plenty of parking (you can get a permit from the city for our zone and do street parking for like $150 for the year), key fob access and controlled entry (you can feel extra snooty as you screen all your guests), spacious apartments, hard wood flooring, respectful neighbors and pretty clean. And now, some neighborhood highlights: Commuter Friendly. Right on the Georgia Ave/Petworth metro (green and yellow line). Quiet streets. Well, unless you count the "City Crickets" (sirens) blazing about from time to time. Hipster Friendly. Coffee shops, quirky breakfast spots, reading rooms and all that hipster jazz. Family friendly. I'm seeing a lot of new families in the neighborhood and everyone seems very nice. I don't know that there are many families in our building, but the neighborhood itself is good for raising the littles (but for the love of God, don't send them to public school here). Street Cred. You can tell people you live in "Petworth". :) So all in all, I consider this dwelling place AVERAGE. If that's cool with you and you don't need gyms, a concierge, something for you to do on the roof top or any of the other hotel turned apartment things that DC seems to be doing more and more nowadays then you're golden here. Barring catastrophe, I'll probably be here a year or two. Awesome.Leer MásReseña de Apartments.com
