Very dated….not what is shown in video!!
August 2, 2024Style J Future residents please know that NOT all units look like the videos Gaslight Village posts. We were looking last year for 24-25 school year and could not tour the unit because they were all rented at the time but we were told to view this video. We signed based upon what we saw in the video and what we saw in the one model unit. We moved in this week and the unit looks like it hasn’t been updated since the 90’s. Very very dated and beat up, completely with black and white checkerboard ...floors and Roman columns throughout. Not at all what we expected. Oh, and the Wi-Fi they talk about is NOT included. The students are adjusting but this was a disappointment for sure. And the 1st floor bedroom is TINY. Room for a bed and a desk….no moreRead MoreReview from Apartments.com
Great apartment
May 23, 2023I would love to give Gaslight Village a 5-star review. The apartments are spacious and the community is very friendly. The location is perfect for anyone who wants to be in the heart of East Lansing, with easy access to all the great restaurants and shops in the area.Review from Apartments.com
I was wary, but I love it here!
May 23, 2023Initially, I was deterred by the other review here, but after carefully reading it and speaking to the office I decided to take the jump and move in to a 3 bedroom. I love my apartment. It's definitely one of the largest in the area and I think it's a great price. The only downside is that the clubhouse is located down the street and I get my Amazon packages delivered to their office, but otherwise it's been the best place I've lived in EL.Review from Apartments.com
Very nice
May 23, 2023I enjoyed my stay here at Gaslight Village. I just renewed for next year and hopefully will renew the year after. I currently live in a 1 bed and it is very nice and spacious. I enjoy Gaslight Village because I get my in-unit washer and dryer.Review from Apartments.com
SUBJECT: ROACHES
September 15, 2020If I could give this apartment complex 0 stars, I would do so because 1 star is way too generous. After signing an “as is” lease agreement, the apartment was in subpar condition due to the previous tenants. As expected, my roommate and I had to put in a lot of work into cleaning the unit and getting it up to livable standards since it would be our home for the next year. What we did not expect, however, is to have to deal with roaches. Yes, roaches! I found a roach crawling on my bedroom door. ...Before discarding the roach, pictures were taken of it to send to the leasing office as proof. The leasing agent tried to downplay the situation by ensuring to us that it was not a roach but instead an outside bug since we live by a wooded area. Pest control was called and he was able to immediately identify the bug as a German Cockroach. He came to our unit to put down a treatment and traps to get rid of the other potential roaches that may have been hiding. He even found a baby roach in one of our cabinets. Because we were still left with feelings of uneasiness but did not want to break our lease, we simply requested to switch units. The property manager, Kristen, begrudgingly agreed to letting us switch to a different unit under the conditions that we would have to move on that same day and take it in the current condition it was in. We did not want to accept it until we saw the unit ourselves and thank goodness we saw it first. It was in an even worse condition than our current unit was in when we first moved in. The paneling on the walls and alongside the windows were chipped as if an animal had been eating it for dinner every night. The smell was pungent. The carpet and flooring in the bedroom and bathroom, respectively, were coming up. The walls were filthy. Quite frankly it was insulting that they would even offer us such a poor unit. They downright refused to have any cleaning or maintenance work done for us. The level of professionalism from the regional property manager is laughable. She did not sympathize with our concerns in any way. After telling her about the unit that Kristen tried to give us, she straight up said she would not have even offered us any kind of transfer if it was up to her.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
THEY HAVE ROACHES
September 1, 2020Upon moving in, I saw what I thought was a bug but turned out to be a baby roach after later finding more. The apartment is in a woodsy area which is why I thought it was an insect because the unit is filled with them. After not being able to recognize the bug pest control confirmed it was actually a German roach. At first the leasing office denied it and tried to blame us for the unit having roaches. I have never experienced living with roaches (and neither has my roommate). Pest control came ...through and sprayed stuff and put “traps” down but even after they left I found another one on my pillow. We made sure we were home for the pest control visit to gain knowledge on this issue and the guy was unable to allocate the source. This means that because this is an apartment building, the roaches could be in multiple units and probably came from another unit since they are all connected. We talked to the property manager and asked to be accommodated by switching but the property manager Kristen offered us another unit and said we would have to move out the day of and take the next unit as is. Upon visiting the offered unit, it reeked like an animal had sprayed in their multiple times, the bathroom floor and bedroom carpet was coming up to where you could see the cement below the bathroom floor and the wood beneath the bedroom floor. The detailing around the entire apartment looked like a beaver had been chewing on it, most of the blinds were broken and the walls were beyond filthy and was overdue for a paint job. I told Kristen we were unable to accept that unit as is because it is in no condition for anyone to live there (especially health wise from the previous animal) but would be willing to take it once maintenance went in, did inspections and turned it over. She denied my request and told me that I would have to take the unit as is or stay in the unit with the roaches. She was very rude every time I talked to her. I decided to call the regional property manager who was even worse. Lewter claimed that Kristen was doing me a favor and she wouldn’t have even gone to that extent. She offered to have cleaners come to our unit and clean it which was pointless because cleaning the unit doesn’t make roaches go away. Lewter was helpless and I was surprised and disappointed in her lack of effort to help the situation and sympathize with us. Additionally, I never got a response from her when she said she would follow up and she denied my request to be moved.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
