The Cheapest Apartments in Bethesda (Caution: Still Ain't That Cheap)
August 13, 2015Finding a cheap apartment in Bethesda Maryland can seem like you're... A. Trying to answer the question: "What is the meaning of life?" B. Trying to find a needle in a haystack... but the haystack is the size of the Chrysler building, and the needle is from the sewing room at Barbie's Dream House. C. Racing a cheetah down the plains of Sub Saharan Africa... after you have broken both your legs. I'm pretty sure it was the plot of the 3rd Mission Impossible movie. Tom Cruise staggers his way ...among suburbia to try and find a semi decent apartment that he can pay for on a median salary. Well, I'm about to tell you to look NO FURTHER my friend. Apartments in Bethesda are getting more and more pricey, but the "Traditional" ( that mean's old) style apartment buildings on Battery Lane owned by Aldon have practically stayed the same. Now, don't expect any of the amenities of those fancy new highrises. Your concierge will be a drunk 20 something year old smoking at your back door. The pool is down the street on top of the closest hotel. And you're community room is a courtyard with no seating but enough mosquitos to bring down an adult elephant. Expect larger apartments, closed concept, kitchens that were invented before the word "counter-space" was used, and appliances that we're never 'state-of-the-art.' What these apartments have is charm. The wooden floors might be a bit old, the windows are a bit oddly shaped, and the elevators still have their original 1960s style thick black button pushers. You're neighbors will be me. A late twenty something (ok, I'm 30! stop shoving it in my face) gay guy who lives with a beautiful straight girl. I work in marketing and have squarely enough money to afford this apartment and to drink most every other night at the local dive bar. The maintenance people are quick to respond to emergencies, always friendly; a good deal of them live within the buildings. You'll get 1 parking space, and good luck with the other car. That part is a nightmare. But for someone who has lived here for 4 years and is paying around 1700 dollars total for a 2 bedroom in Bethesda, when 2 bedrooms are going up that are half the size of my apartment for 3400 dollars. I count myself pretty lucky. Plus, that fancy building that just went up behind us that has a deli/cleaners/beer & wine store/ and market on the bottom floor. That is literally a stone's throw and those suckers are paying twice as much! Cheers SuckersRead MoreReview from Apartments.com
Great location, good apartment.
July 21, 2015The best part of this building is that it is a short walk to anything in Bethesda. I'm also on the first floor, so I have a door directly outside, which is so nice. The apartments are renovated inside with new carpet, and they are rather spacious. We also don't pay utilities, besides internet and cable. The kitchen is very small and has very little in the way of appliances. The bathroom doesn't have a fan. The staff has generally been very helpful, though they have been a bit slow fixing a few ...small things.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
