He envisioned to develop a ""medical retreat"" on Absecon Island, the area occupied by the city today. He and his partners proposed building a resort town to Philadelphia railroad executives who bought into his idea that sea air and salty water held curative properties. The 17 square mile stretch of pristine beachfront in Absecon Island still prospers to date."
